Minor League Pitching

Post by Cardinals4Life »

I wonder how our AAA/AA/and High A rotations will look to start the season?

Just some guesses.......

AAA:
Mathews
Henderson
Hence
Mautz
Hansen
Robberse - is he pitching this year?
Bedell
Rajcic
Hjerpe - is he pitching this year?

AA:
Doyle
Cijntje
Wei-Lin
Rincon
Saladin

High A:
Franklin
Clarke
Savacool
Dohm
Molina
Aita

Who are some arms I am forgetting?
I believe Roby is out all season.
Dutkanych? (Sp?)

Might need The Duce to come in and give some projections!!

Clarke?

I think Roby may be back by the second half. Probably time to move him to relief

Only miss for these levels is Braden Davis. Think he’d be above savacool at least and probably more. He’s surpassing my early expectations. Might end up in the pen the strikeouts are there.

Springfield..... Braden Davis, Brandt Thompson....and I'd move Pete Hansen back to Springfield....solely b/c there might not be room in the Inn in Memphis. Hence at Memphis, maybe he stays there. Hjerpe to Springfield. I'd put both of them at Springfield so the better training specialists can monitor them. And Saladin lost his starting gig last summer in Peoria, Salas did, too....Saladin did okay in long relief during AFL, so he may factor into piggy back duties when the Fragile Two (Hjence and Hjerpe)

Peoria is missing Elissalt...from the Mets org, traded last summer for Helsley

Assuming at just 19 years old, Fajardo goes back down to A ball?

Hopefully Hjerpe and Hence are both back healthy to start the season. We will see Roby back in 2027. Things are starting to look good with this pitching depth, our bullpen will be loaded in a couple of seasons. Gotta imagine they grab quite a few position players in the draft this summer.

I’m also very excited about our minor league pitching prospects, just as I was last off season. Most of them were already here, as well. Drafted by the Cardinals, but now seem to be getting better tutelage. I’m very curious as to how much more they will develop this season. We have no way of knowing how quickly the Cardinals will want to promote any of them. There is quite a log jamb, so to speak. I know things have a way of working themselves out, but what if a pitcher is ready to move up to Springfield, but everyone there is doing well, and then there also is no room at Memphis? What a problem to have, right? I can see this as clearly being an issue, especially with all the new arms Bloom has brought in. It certainly isn’t a bad thing to slow some of these players promotions down some. No need rush anyone, but also they shouldn’t hold anyone back either if they are clearly ready to move up.
I know Bloom and his group want to be careful, and not make the same mistakes the previous group made, but at some point the pitching crop will need to be thinned out some. There simply isn’t going to a spot for everyone.
Starting pitching is definitely more valuable than relief pitching, but the Cardinals need to determine which ones would be better suited for which area, and prepare those players for that role. For instance, we all have thought Hince would be better off pitching out of the pen, but they keep pushing him as a starter, and he keeps getting injured. It would seem that he has been passed by now, due to his injuries by other guys who still need to be developed as starters. Still, as I said, what a nice problem to have!
