Ant has suddenly lost his game and can't shoot a trey anymore nor run the point so TO has come on strong playing outstanding D and still being a real force around the basket with some incredible plays.
He shut down the leading scorer in SEC who is point machine till late in game. Love how he shoots a SET shot for his three balls and has come on in last couple games making them. Gates still gives Ant too much PT but you know why, imagine if he suddenly comes back to playing as he can with a really good TO?
This is TO's team now

Re: This is TO's team now
You lost me with your admiration of his set shot. I watch and wonder how someone can play basketball for what, 18 years, and still be unable to shoot a jump shot. Shooting is the only hole in his game. He does great point guard stuff (passing, assists, sees the floor), is really good at driving to the basket, and is a great rebounder for his size. But, watching that flat-footed set shot is more than I can take (and I can take almost anything - I watched all 18 conference losses a couple of years ago).hdhntr148 wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 10:23 am Ant has suddenly lost his game and can't shoot a trey anymore nor run the point so TO has come on strong playing outstanding D and still being a real force around the basket with some incredible plays.

Re: This is TO's team now
I said the same thing on another site and got roasted for it. Some people are too dumb to be on the internet. I was trying to make the point that it was to TO's detriment that he can't shoot a jump shot (one of the most basic skills in basketball) and he'd never get to the league with it and it turned into a "this team is better with him at the point" discussion. Although that's a rant I agree with and said so before TO even took over at point.Sophrosyne wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 10:45 amYou lost me with your admiration of his set shot. Re: This is TO's team now
knew some big mary's would weigh in on this. you guys are way too predictable. It's my own guilty pleasure as when I played I had no effective jumper but would take long shots that way but for only two. Yes he doesn't take many jumpers but TO isn't going to the show anyway. at best you will see him in China or some other second tier foreign place. But what he is is a BB player who is effective attacking the rim and finishing.
That's the thing about Ant while he can't hit a Trey to save his life he is effective with the midrange jumper.
so what he isn't your classic 3 point maniac, he is still effective running the team when he is in there and lets Ant slide to 2 and hopefully finds his Trey shot again where last year had a high %. But the book on TO is to back off and let him shoot which is fine if he makes them. There isn't a rule that it counts less now does it?
so go whine somewhere else they are better when he is playing and his outstanding D is a huge bonus.

Re: This is TO's team now
I'm not happy that Barrett shoots the way he does, either. The fact is that it limits his ceiling as a player. But...if the shots fall at a high enough percentage, it doesn't matter how he shoots them. If they don't, defenses will continue to pack the lane and leave him open, daring him to shoot. And for him to be effective as a point guard, that simply can't happen. You could tell in the MS State game that the scouting report was to let Barrett shoot from the outside and to defend against his lane penetration. It's one reason he shot more poorly from close in than he has been, and made a couple turnovers in the lane. If he can't make enough open threes, no matter how he shoots them, to bring the defense out to guard him, he's simply not going to be as effective in the rest of his game and neither is the team. He shot 2-4 on threes, and the two he missed were right on line and rattled around the rim before coming out. If he can shoot like that, it will make his whole game more effective.
Re: This is TO's team now
Not over Ant it isn't. Ant was a first team All-SEC defender last year and still plays great defense. Ant's a mess right if he get himself straighten out he's the better pg but until that happens I'm fine with Barrett in there with his silly 6th grade chest shot. The defenses will adjust to Barrett's lack of outside (or mid-range) shooting and will stifle his effectiveness. They can play 3-4 feet off of him to negate his ability to drive because he can't shoot unless he's got about an 8 foot cushion.hdhntr148 wrote: ↑03 Feb 2026 08:46 am knew some big mary's would weigh in on this. you guys are way too predictable.
