"Trades are No guarantee"

"Upside w/these trades to impact a playoff caliber team"

"Gave ourselves a lot of chances to accomplish that"

Thanks for the heads up. His transparency and straightforwardness are a breath of fresh air.

Dumb question by Goold with his statement that we've traded "four All-Stars." No mention that three weren't All-Stars since 2023 (NA and Sonny) and 2022 (WC).

He had a great answer for Jurrangelo Cijntje, concentrating mostly on RHP moving forward, but still keeping him throwing BPs. etc. until they evaluated him more.

He emphasized concentrating on huge upside. A higher risk for a higher ceiling is a good strategy.

"Hard decision trading Donovan but aligned w/what he's trying to achieve"

"OF is an area still could stand to add externally through FA and/or the trade market"

"Fermin and Saggese might see OF time"

"We've added significant talent upside to our minor league system but there are no guarantees of success"

"Not shutting his phone off when it comes to trades but nothing up his sleeves at this time"

Yes, got the feeling they did not want to change up his warm up bull pen sessions that he is used to .. keep his routine the same for now .

Its actually 5 all stars with Helsley. But you are missing the point. Its not about whether we are trading current all stars, but about the fact that we did have all star caliber talent on this roster (at any recentish point in the past) and whether we are sufficiently reloading/developing to the level of quality and beyond.

Will this "haul" and what we have in the system produce at least 5 future all stars? Or if not, where do they come from? Because that's what a competitive roster will need, at a minimum. Realistically More like 6-8 who have the All star caliber/elite projections, even if not all quite execute to that level in the same year, to be a great team.

We all know players age out and either retire or move on, but a top franchise will keep reloading to that prior level of talent from one or more sources, whether it be trades, drafts, Intl signings, FA etc. The problem is a long time ago the Cardinals quit maintaining that level of 5-6 active and maybe as many as 10 former/potential AS level players in their system from all sources combined. We can argue where they should come from and how much cost controls we need on them etc, but ultimately that total talent level is necessary to win again.

Liked his take on giving Nathan Church opportunity. Kid has hit at every MILB level. Let’s see what he can do.

Yes but our fan base also has a lot of fans that go to games for the name on the Jersey so I can see some relevance.
