Cijntje's splits pitching RH vs LH

Post by ClassicO »

The rumor was he'd only be a RHP in the future. These limited stats indicate it may be a good thing. Hitters had an OPS over 1.100 against him while pitching lefty. It was only 47 PAs left-on-left and 15 PAs left-on-right, but still.

Yes, I noted the same last night:

Small sample size, but his minor league splits as a LHP (vs. both LHB and RHB) are pretty dreadful--1.114 OPS-against vs LHB as LHP; 1.103 OPS-against vs. RHB as LHP.
His profile as a LHP is sort of the worst of all worlds: middling stuff combined with a >30% walk rate.

Studied those same splits this morning too

Not sure C. Bloom has commented yet but hopefully they keep the kid from the right side only and ditch the "switch pitcher" idea.

The thing I like is this is yet another potential power arm Bloom has added to the mix, something Mo and his gang failed at miserably.

I feel pretty good about Cijntje (boy does he need a nickname that's easier to spell!) to remain a starter.

He seems to have a more durable body than Hence. There's muscle on his frame and isn't a stringbean. From what I saw on a couple of youtube videos he looks like he has a fairly low effort delivery and decent mechanics. At least from this layman's perspective. His delivery as a lefty seemed to have a lot more effort to it.

He's not going to be a 200IP horse...but I could see him doing Sonny Gray numbers. That ain't bad.

His numbers against LH hitters while pitching RH are also atrocious for minor league stats of a supposed blue chip SP prospect.
