Another thing to consider is the $5.8 million saved on Donny. If that $5,800,000 gets invested in say, Andujar. The trade essentially is
2 years of Brendan Donovan and his 2.7 - 3.1 WAR per year
For
1 Year of Andujar - projected to earn 2.3 - 3 WAR
6 Years of Cijntje
6 Years of Peete
6 Years of Ledbetter
6 Years of control for Comp Pick
6 years of control for Comp Pick
Cijntje projects as a potential number 2 starter which is a 3.5 - 5 WAR player. A mid rotation starter is a 2 - 3.5 WAR player.
With the glut of infield depth, Wetherholt, Fermin, Prieto, Saggese, Gorman, a little deeper - Mendlinger, Mitchell, Mendoza, Baez he will be fairly easy to replace at 2B. Wetherholt could actually outperform him this year.
Summary - Wow, this is an incredible haul for Donovan. Wow! This trade will positively impact the Cardinals for years with very little negative impact this season.
Bonus - Sign Andujar and the team still has $ to sign a couple starting pitchers.
Surprise, a 6th player included in Donovan deal!!

I also wonder if Bloom has gotten feelers from teams looking at Cardinal pitching prospects that were ALREADY in the system prior to all these trades?
Of course they could “flip” arms just acquired but this could also free up arms to deal for position players/bats?
