I was looking at payroll and noticed May was making 12.5 mil.
Let say before the season started a team suffered an injury to a player in this case a pitcher. Is it possible to trade a pitcher who just signed assuming no NTC was assigned to the contract?
Would the Cardinals move May if the deal was “right”.
Has a player been traded before they started on the team who signed them?

I did find your question a bit interesting. I’m betting it’s happened. But I’d also bet rarely.Alex Reyes Cy Young wrote: ↑03 Feb 2026 05:56 am I was looking at payroll and noticed May was making 12.5 mil.

You can't trade a newly signed free agent until June 15th without their agreement. So they basically have a NTC until June 15th.Alex Reyes Cy Young wrote: ↑03 Feb 2026 05:56 am I was looking at payroll and noticed May was making 12.5 mil.

Yes, but Fingers was obtained by trade, not signed as a FA.OldRed wrote: ↑03 Feb 2026 06:16 amRollie Fingers comes to mind with the Cardinals.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑03 Feb 2026 06:03 amI did find your question a bit interesting.
