Bloom panicked. He saw SF got a 2B and knew he only had one team left and made the quickest deal possible.

This team will not lose 90 games.... nor will they win 90..... so I will just enjoy seeing if JJW can adjust to the bigs. If Herrera can really hit (not sure if he can catch). See if Libby can become a real top of the line pitcher. Nah, probably not a #1, but maybe a #2 type.... and lots of other things to watch. I know they are not going to the playoffs, but there will be interesting things to watch... and they will not lose 90 games.

Agree. I think it's a more competitive team than people realize. I don't think a 75-80 win season is that unlikely.

I will give him a bit of a pass.
He did far better with the Gray and N/A moves.
Though the Contreras move wasn't what I would have done, it has some logic behind it.
Not this move.
No one is going to get it right every time (well, almost no one).
I suspect Bloom was simply trying to bring a little more clarity to the infield: Gorman will play 3rd, Wetherholt will play 2nd.
For all practical purposes, this will force The Marmot to play them.
With Mootbaar facing yet another life threatening injury which rendered him untradeable at the moment, Bloom saw Donovan as the only tradeable and expendable LH bat.
So, he decided to roll the dice and hope for the best.
This math problem turned out to be a subtraction question - not an addition.

To win around 80 games there are a lot of things that will have go in the Cardinals favor. Gorman, Scott, and Walker will need to be closer to what they were originally envisioned to be. Herrera and Burleson will need to stay healthy and at least repeat last years results. Saggese will need to step up and be closer to the AA player he was. Winn needs to be healthy and show improvement at the plate. The bullpen will have to repeat last year’s stellar performance. Marmol will need to be a better Manager ( ha ha )
Lastly, they’ll need the dozen or more starters on hand to be able to cover enough innings to not deplete the bullpen by the all-star break. It’s certainly possible, but that’s a lot of uncertainty!
The other side of things is, if everything goes wrong, 65 wins might be hard to attain.

Maybe you remember him, the former top 3 STL prospect????
Very little chance he will ever be "a mainstay in the rotation".
Might want to slow down a bit until we have had a chance to evaluate Cjintje before making reckless projections.
After all, the normally pitching stingy Mariners were willing to ship him out.....

I think Fermin, Torres, and Church will earn more playing time than you're expecting. All have strong plate discipline and plus bat to ball skills. I wouldn't be surprised, at all, to see Scott and maybe even Walker start the year at AAA. They certainly need to earn their playing time.

They have about 20 guys who can cover innings out of the bullpen.

I’m hoping that they do, I like all three of them. I doubt Scott or Walker start the year off in AAA, but hopefully they will be on short leashes! At some point they have to accept that their way of doing things isn’t working! We all know Spring stats mean very little, but this year they could mean a whole lot to several different players.
As to the pitching, last year was so freaky as to how few injuries there were. So many of the arms Bloom has brought in have a history of injuries, so this could be quite the opposite!

The November claim is dubious at best with all the infield free agents(and the potential trade of Marte) on the market this off-season. The OP just pulling [shirt] out of his (donkey), with his bare hands, with that comment.

Your last sentence. Pitching stingy Mariners. They have much pitching. Losing one for that missing piece was a drip in the staff bucket.

The overall trade was good. Two reasonable draft slots. They will pick only the best atheletic type at that slotting.

If one player from the trade make MLB, then it’s a break even deal at worse.
