Thomas surgery
While the Blues said this was a minor surgery, which is really good news, Monty did mention that he was having pain when striding to skate. Wonder how long he's been dealing with this? Has it been all season, as he had a minor injury coming out of camp?
The one thing I absolutely despise about the NHL is the lack of disclosure of injuries. I guess I understand it, so as not to give opponents the ability to target a player in an injured area, but the NFL discloses them and it's just as physical as the NHL. Either way, I wonder how long this injury has been bothering Thomas, and if it has been a major point of his reduced production this season. He's been hammered on the forum pretty hard this season. Curious if this changes anyone's thoughts or confirms others who've said "...he must be playing hurt".

Re: Thomas surgery
He's looked off all season. Wouldn't surprise me if he's been dealing with this since October. He already missed a handful of games before the current stint on IR. The reporting on injuries is a bizarre cultural thing in hockey. Like most competitive sports it breeds an environment of repression of the self. Inject huge dollars into the equation and the pressure ramps up. The hiding injuries thing goes hand in hand with self repression and projecting bold front in face of adversity that is fetishized within that community.TruBlueFan_1970 wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 12:00 pm While the Blues said this was a minor surgery, which is really good news, Monty did mention that he was having pain when striding to skate. Re: Thomas surgery
Sounds like an orthoscopic cleanup on the knee - not a big deal in the long run.
Re: Thomas surgery
On the radio they said he’s been playing injured since he got hurt in October vs Detroit and missed some games.ratonmono2 wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 12:09 pmHe's looked off all season. Due to the speed and physicality of hockey you don’t want the other team to know where your player has issues. They will target him to gain an advantage. I would think football would be the same but I don’t follow the NFL.TruBlueFan_1970 wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 12:00 pm While the Blues said this was a minor surgery, which is really good news, Monty did mention that he was having pain when striding to skate. Re: Thomas surgery
Pretty dumb by the organization if this is the case. Risking further damage to one of your most important players at a key position. Should have been allowed to heal up 100% even if it would have required surgery in October and missing weeks more than he did.Absolut wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 13:24 pmOn the radio they said he’s been playing injured since he got hurt in October vs Detroit and missed some games.ratonmono2 wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 12:09 pmHe's looked off all season. Will have to agree here. Should have at least shut him down for awhile back then.LGB73 wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 13:44 pmPretty dumb by the organization if this is the case. Re: Thomas surgery
football has to label the players in specific ways due to gambling regulation. they have the IR/ D2D/ GTD etc etc which is essentially supposed to act as a color coded severity of the injury. There is language in players contracts that doctors have to sign off on some injury data so you can get paid. I believe that's the case in any sport tho, you just hardly see it in hockey. In football and basketball there will be guys that milk an injury costing the org money and them not playing. And now you have the doctors and athletic training staff gaming the system in the NBA and holding players out who aren't injured to rest them.Galatians221jb1 wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 13:40 pmDue to the speed and physicality of hockey you don’t want the other team to know where your player has issues. Each system has it's faults.

Typically when they do a clean-up it just means that there is some scar tissue they have to clean out. He wouldn't be risking further injury. It's just a pain threshold thing.LGB73 wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 13:44 pmPretty dumb by the organization if this is the case. Risking further damage to one of your most important players at a key position. Re: Thomas surgery
Injuries are just excuses for Army's mistakes. Shouldn't invest in so many players that get hurt.

I would day "Hopefully" rather than "Typically". If there are loose ends our bad tears, they shave them down and, when unavoidable, remove meniscus. Its not great to lose meniscus but it beats playing in bad pain.Tony Palazzolo wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 14:12 pmTypically when they do a clean-up it just means that there is some scar tissue they have to clean out. They have a contract with tens of millions of dollars left. They aren't going to do anything stupid in order to salvage what is nearly a lost season. They call them "assets" for a reason.Harry York 37 wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 16:02 pmI would day "Hopefully" rather than "Typically".
