It ain't just FTs. It's poor offensive sets, poor passing, too many bonehead TOs, poor 3-point D.

It seems that Gates's philosophy is that he'll give up the occasional open three to stop scoring in the paint. Sometimes that works, and Mizzou's inside defense is pretty good most games. Today, there were no serious inside threats for MS State, so they worked a lot harder defending the three because Hubbard and Epps were almost the whole offense. They only gave up one open three to Hubbard and a couple to Epps on miscommunications. They also gave up a few to others who the scouting report said aren't good from three, and those others made a couple and missed several.
