Letang Pitts Out At Least 4 Weeks Broken Foot

Post by PWD8730 »

Penguins in second place, have plenty of cap space and multiple picks in upcoming drafts for next two years in rounds 2 and 3. Window is closing for team. Do you go for it and acquire a guy like Faulk or stay the course and hold on for the picks for the eventual rebuild? Faulk is posting better numbers then Letang this year and would easily be the 3 Dman on the team when Letang returns IMO.

We do like to trade with them. Save them some cap though and see if we can pry a few things from them. Use Dumb-a as our RD until the TDL, then play whoever you want there the last month of the season. Grab a couple picks and a big-bodied 3rd line forward in Brazeau, or a D prospect in Pickering. They get Faulk and Binnington, to play with Crosby and Malkin for one last crack at gold.

To PIT: Faulk (50% retained), Binnington, Jecho

To STL: 2026 2nd (from WPG), 2027 1st (PIT), Justin Brazeau and/or Owen Pickering, Skinner (UFA), Matt Dumb-a (salary dump UFA)

Then hopefully flip Dumb-a to a playoff team for a 5th or 6th round pick at the deadline. Find a home for Schenn to supplement draft picks or prospects.

Armstrong is looking for a bit less than Andersson return, but there isn’t as much interest as Andersson.

Might see a surge in trade activity over the next few days, as a trade freeze is coming up next week.

Really hope we see something.

With the Olympic break, that means he'll just miss the rest of the games before the break.

Blues want to address very weak backend. Apparently long-term interest in Power/Byram. No surprise there.

Olympic break is about 20 days so that will take a chunk of the mending time.

But that's best-case scenario for Pittsburgh. Letang may be a quick healer and hit that timeframe. Or as an older guy he takes 5 or 6 weeks to heal. In a normal season that isn't that many games but with the compressed schedule those games come quick. Pittsburgh may even want to err on the side of caution and let him recover longer and get ready for the playoffs. That's the luxury that a Faulk type of deal gives them.

I agree they aren't getting the Anderson type of return, but I hope they don't nix a deal because it's not perfect. I wouldn't want to take on all the salary and players like dumb[ash] and Skinner, just the picks or a pick + prospect. I wouldn't retain either but it's not my money so ....

Yeah, I was a little light-hearted above, but not sure my humor came thru. Even if you did take those guys off their hands (or maybe just Dumb-a), they are both UFA on expiring contracts. They have him buried in the minors right now, so they’d be happy if someone took him for the end of the season. Skinner is the same in that he’s a UFA, but doubt they would want Binner. Again, my wishful thinking to get a 1st, a 2nd, a 3rd line big guy and a prospect for Faulk/Binner. A guy can dream a bit! Lol
