Gutsy performance by Neighbours and Kyrou tonight

Post by the miracle »

Both guys not sure if they would be able to play and making the case to do everything they can to get into tonight's game. Sounded like (from the radio pregame) that they were champing at the bit to get in against a tough Florida team that's planning on returning to their rough and tumble playstyle and get back into the playoff mix. Takes a lot of guts to come back from injury against a tough team like this. That's the kind of secondary leadership that the rookies will respond to and sets a great example.

Great to see the leadership - but even better to see them put their money where their mouth is by showing up in a big way on the ice and the score sheet.

But…but…..according to BluesTalk posters Kyrou should be off in a corner sucking his thumb for the rest of the season. Maybe not those exact words but with the supposed lack of intestinal fortitude what else would he do?

Doesnt it annoy you more to see them play well? Dont you wonder why they cant play that way 40 other games this year? By merely just playing hard they would probably be very close to a WC team. Playing on their toes vs playing lackadaisically. Esp Kyrou its 180 deg different when he just moves his feet. Dont ever need him to hit anyone anytime he could literally be a Conn Smyth just be skating with intensity and winning pucks. Maddening.

Honestly, no. Do I wish the Kyrou we saw last night was there for 80 games a season? Sure! But the dude's human.

I mean, think about how many people make excuses for Binnington (whom I love). "Goalies can't stop deflections". "The defense was terrible". "Forwards didn't get back."

But Kyrou can't be injured? He has to carry the play of all his linemates? He can't just have an off night? If the Blues only hope of winning is if Kyrou scores a hatrick every night or checks somebody into the third row - I don't see that as Kyrou's fault. It's the Blues' fault.

I'll fully recognize he has had a (bleep) start to the season. But that shouldn't stop me from recognizing also when he's playing good.

I'm not saying you're wrong Harry. I love your posts and you're a level headed guy and respect your opinion if you disagree. But that's my perspective.

As opposed to only showing up when he stinks? Yeah, that sounds like fun.

Actually I’d be here rain or shine, but after a while got tired of beating my head against the wall with you people where he can do nothing right.
You’ve got a lot invested in Kyrou, and I get that — but I’ve watched him his entire hockey life. I was actually at his first home game in Sarnia and his last one there too.

He has talent and skill — no question. You don’t make the NHL without it. But some fans confuse ‘skilled’ with ‘elite,’ and Kyrou isn’t elite. He’s a skilled forward, full stop.

I want Kyrou to stay a Blue, I really do. But when you play in St. Louis, there’s a certain style the fans — and former Blues players — expect. Every hockey town has that identity, and this one is no different.

Guys have good nights and bad nights, that’s hockey. The problem is Kyrou has more off nights than on, and it’s wearing thin. He’s paid now, so the expectation is that he elevates his game — not that the team bends to fit his game. That’s not how the NHL works. If you don’t adapt, you get moved.

Honestly, a new team and a fresh start might be the best thing for him, and that happens all the time. Because if Kyrou stays here, he’s going to be under the microscope every single game until the Blues win a Cup with him in the lineup. And that’s a tough place to live, eh.

Loved seeing how excited Kyrou got for Rudy. Literally jumped on him. That was nice. He was very good.

Armstrong is in a tough place with Kyrou. His value is low, yet there’s a chance he could return to a 40 ish goal scorer on another club. So he sits on his ask.

I really want him to be a 40-goal scorer for the Blues — I honestly do. But his value is low right now because of the path he’s chosen. That’s on him.

I swear, he’s capable of doing some MacKinnon-type things. The speed is there. The skill is there. But he needs to work on his foot movement and puck control at full speed. Too often it looks like he’s going too fast for his own hands, like he’s not fully in control and ends up unsure of his footing.

If he could tighten that up — use his speed with purpose instead of just blasting into the zone — he could be a completely different player. That’s the frustrating part. The ceiling is right there, but he’s not grabbing it.

I appreciate the well thought out comments here. I hear this comment alot that it's time for a fresh start. Let me ask this - let's assume the Blues trade him and the fresh start is the kick in the pants he needed (a la TJ Oshie) to become a consistent player for 80 games a season. Are you okay with him scoring 35 goals a year for the next decade for another team?

I just don't see what good it does for the Blues for Kyrou to have a fresh start. Why not keep trying to make it work here?

Kyrou, Jake were great. But the whole team really played an aggressive game against Florida.
All the nit picking penalties called in the first 2 periods detracted some but this team really kept fighting.
What many of us fail to see is that the whole team seems to be up and down and not just the few high priced guys.
We tend to really go after those few when in reality we should be calling out the team as a whole.
I for one am going to enjoy this game and look fwd to the next one to see if the whole team can keep up this level of intensity.

I especially enjoyed Hofer ripping off Tkachuk's helmet. That was definitely fun to watch.

LGBS!!!!

I have gradually come to change my thoughts on Kyrou. I want the Blues to keep him. He still has a lot of upside and his game is slowly beginning to mature. I used to advocate trading both Thomas and Kyrou. I now think of the two 18 probably needs to go. ( There's a reason he got the A and not the C. ) Some sort of addition by subtraction plus he prefers over passing to shooting. He still has substantial value to a team but apparently we've seen the upside.

One thing that really impressed me with Jake…..he got destroyed in the corner with about 30 seconds left. Not sure who hit him, but he got rocked and seemed a little hurt/stunned. But he dragged his assssss up off the ice and went right to the front of the net, which is where he was when the Blues scored.
