Put the ticket in my wallet and, presto, half the ticket was illegible.

No, but I assume, legally speaking, there has to be a winner for each drawing. It is, after all, a raffle and is sold as a 50/50 contest.

I understand the OP’s point, but with as many tickets as they probably sell, the chances of winning are pretty small.
