Ticket Prices

Post by Poojols »

Haven't been to a game this year since they are just a bad team with lots of injuries, but wow. I just checked ticket prices as I was going to take my son to a game this year. How in the world are the nosebleeds around $100 each? Why are people paying these prices for this product?

Now obviously most people can afford at least one game a year at these inflated prices, but nah. Not worth the time or money.

Just rebuild like the Cardinals please.

Everybody keeps paying all these inflated prices for everything. Nobody knows how to sacrifice or go without to combat corporate America.

Depends on whether it's a weekend or week day game. Week day games you can find upper level tickets for $35-$50.

I've only made it to a few games over the past 5 or so years.

The last time I purchased tickets was probably before the Cup. Have been invited for free once or twice.

It's hard to blame anyone for prices in what is supposed to be a free market system - people are buying them. And, as was mentioned, out of principle, I do not buy them.

Kid Rock just stood in front of politicians to speak about Live Nation / Ticketmaster forming a monopoly that has only served themselves, leaving music fans the bill and frustration. Sports are perhaps different, but generally ticketmaster is where all tickets are distributed. "pay your $15 service fee PER TICKET " can kiss my (donkey).

I know I come from a special era, but the entire spectacle has become saturated with inflated pricing (talking more than just the purchasing power of the dollar decreasing exponentially over several decades) and obstacles.

One day soon, parking will be $100 and people will be forced to buy fewer $20 bud lights inside the rink while they sit facing the distracting cheerleaders (seriously, the lame "lets...go..blues..." sing along thing, as bad as it is, make the cheerleaders completely unnecessary, ESPECIALLY when considering they already had the girls out there in between play shoveling ice) that they didn't ask for, while watching garbage teams the last few years (outside of a select few months).

It's like they've done everything they can to muddy the hockey experience for real fans in order to accommodate for non-fans. Principled Blues/hockey fans? You are punished for not spending your money at the rink by having to tolerate never knowing where the game will be televised, if it will work as it should, and...of course...the new broadcast team that could not be any worse.

Been tooting this horn for a while now. I was a partial plan holder for a while and sold group tickets for work as well. Coming out of the lock out things began to change. I stopped selling group tickets when they went to a non-refundable deposit. As ticket prices increased I let the partial plan go. Now I get in a game or two a year. there is no way I could afford to take the family like I used too. My wife and I with our 3 boys used to have a great time at the games for about $150. We all still love hockey and especially the Blues but we live 90 minutes out and going to see games is just not in the budget. Sadly while the boys and I still watch and stay connected during games remotely, my family has grandkids now that likely will never get this love by going to many live games. The oldest boy has never taken his family due to costs. The youngest has just started his family and he feels the same pinch. You would think this would serve as a warning. Owners and players continue to rake in millions through increasing revenue but ticket prices don't decrease. This will be fine for some franchises. I wonder about the viability of other franchises across sports though. Sadly I think this includes the Blues. I think that is the real reason why the Blues try to make the playoffs so hard. Our ownership tries but breaking even does not happen till playoff games start generating revenue. They lose money if they fail.

Not sure what the OP is doing to shop tickets. Getting a ticket is dependent on so many circumstances. If you are buying season tix, or partial tix in packs, you are paying close to full retail in order to secure the seats you want for the games you want. Totally standard.

If you are just looking at random individual games there are so many factors involved but you can ALWAYS get tix the day of the game. The price is going to depend on the opponent, the weather, the day of the week and how the team is playing. Thus a Thursday night ticket against an Eastern Conference team, albeit the two time defending cup champs, is going to be cheaper than say, Game 6 of a playoff series.

On the TM site for tonight you can get in the door for 25 bucks. You can sit in the lower end of the upper bowl where the blues shoot twice, in the corner (my favorite spot if I'm paying) for 45 bucks. I see plenty of seats downstairs in the corners for 50-70 bucks. And if you are patient these prices will typically drop on a day like today the closer it gets to game time.

Finally, use the ticketmaster site. I know we all hate TM but it's the only true legit resale site. I've seen too many stories of scamming with stubhub and other resale sites. TM is the actual resale site for Blues tix. Blue dots are tix that haven't been sold. They will be listed at full retail. Maroon dots are resale tix. Shop for the maroon dot tix if possible. Have a ticketmaster account. Easy peasy.

well for starters you nor I get to tell people what they should or should not spend their money.

Secondly, the Blues have been rebuilding and have been straight forward and upfront about it.

Lastly, inflation is a (buzz).

I just went to Tuesdays game and found tix for $20
I spent more at the parking garage than I did for the ticket
I also spent more on concessions than I did for the ticket

I think you might still be able go to the box office in person on the day of the game and get 50% off regular list price
I haven't done this personally but have heard others mention it before. I guess its still a thing...

Tip: Don’t buy early. Look day of game on the secondary. You will always find deals for midweek games and even most weekend games.

Every once in a while if there hasn’t been a home game in a while or against a good team prices will be high….mostly weekend games

This is the answer. Unlike the Cardinals, who have spit in the fans faces. Unlike the Lambs, who deliberately soured the well and stopped talking. The Blues ownership has been very upfront with what is going on. Army has been one of the most transparent and accountable GM's in the league. He has let the fans know when the team should be competing, he has let them know when they are going to struggle, and he has let them know when they have failed.

The last bit is the most important. They hold themselves accountable when things go wrong. They know that the fans are showing up. They are trying their hardest to put the product on the ice that the city deserves. That is about all you can ask for as a fan from my perspective. As long as Monty and the boys are giving effort, I will watch. I don't have the luxury to go to games because I don't live in STL anymore. But if I did, I would be going every chance I get (for what I can afford.) I'm not here to tell a fan what to do with their money. But clearly the attempt at the experience is worth the scratch.

On the flip side, that should be endearing to our fans and our city. Players see that STL is a hockey town because of stuff like this. There's a draw because of it. It's the same Goodwill that the Cardinals had for 20-30 years. Players saw how responsive the fans in STL were to good play, not just by the Cardinals but the other teams. So players were willing to take a flyer on coming to STL over coastal towns to play in "baseball heaven." Well look how fast you can poison the well. You make a mockery of your consistent fanbase, they will lash out. You blame them for your inadequacies and you will feel the sting.

Lets go Blues!

Second tip: don't ever park in the garage attached to the building. Just don't. Sure it's close. Just wait until that first time when you have to leave at the same time as everyone else. Also, don't park in the garage that is on Clark between 11th and Tucker. Same exact thing in play.

If you have functioning feet there is so much street parking between Busch and Union Station, all around, from 40 to Market and beyond. It's mostly free. A couple of spots you might have to load 3-5 bucks on the parking app. I firmly believe the City really isn't ticketing much any longer due to lack of resources. And for those of you about to chime in with "but downtown is dangerous" I've only been murdered twice walking to my favorite street parking spots. The biggest danger right now is the City not tending to the sidewalks and them being snowy/icy.

Tickets during the winter break are always higher with kids out of schools and back from colleges and people being off work more often. They will drop if the team is bad. They won't drop the rest of the year if the team is good. Always cheapest at the begining of the season until mid December. You still can go pretty cheap. I think 14 bucks for today's game is what I saw. Weekends will always be more but with the team doing badly, I am sure that will only be 25 to 35 bucks for the cheapest tickets.

All good tips. We try and usually do find the deals. Another thing we do to save money is go early. Meet at Sybergs and ride the Shuttle. I do wish they had more weekend day games. That 90 minute drive gets me home around 1am for 7pm games. We pretty much watch from home or a bar if we do get together. I miss the days of old. Likely because I am old, lol.

I lived for 20 years in Springfield, IL, which was about a 90 minute drive to the Enterprise Center.
The games were over by 9:30 and we could easily make it back home by 11:30

Rangeriff, without being too intrusive, if you are not getting home until 1:00AM that means you are not leaving until 11:30.
You must be hanging around downtown for at least 2 hours after the game.

The worst time for me was when they moved the start times for our playoff games to 8:30. I was the the triple OT game vs. the Hawks in 2014 and didn't get home until almost 3:00 AM. Had to get up at 7:00 to go to work. That was a long day....LOL
