Does anyone know why he’s not playing games for Springfield?

Re: Akil Thomas
He played last night. He was the 2C. Won most of his faceoffs, had a few hits, made some good defensive plays, he was on the PP and made a few good passes. Skating looked decent as well.
Dean played 4C and didn’t look as aggressive as normal. He did have one play in the 3rd I think where he skated fast to joint the rush. He has the jets when he needs them.
Stancl was 3C between Pekarcik and Peterson. This was Stancl’s best game that I seen recently. He was on the PP and PK.(This line is a handful for the other team)
On D Burns had the best game I’ve seen him play recently. Has good skating ability, skated the puck out of trouble a couple times, makes accurate passes, had a couple big hits and dropped the gloves with the player that ran the goalie over earlier in the period. He also was out for the last 30 seconds to protect the lead. He also had a couple shot attempts that were wristers.
I think Springfield won the first 4-5 faceoffs of the game.
Kasimaki made a really nice pass for a goal on the PP.
The team if they keep playing like the last three games will make the playoffs.

Great update, thanks. Did you watch the stream or actually see the game in person? I live a couple hours from Springfield and have thought about catching a game sometime, maybe later this spring if they continue to play well.Bluesfan1978 wrote: ↑31 Jan 2026 06:35 am He played last night. Re: Akil Thomas
very much appreciated bluesfan1978!
glad about Burns. he has the blank moon face like Tucker when he gets involved. "who, me?" (definitely yes, him)

Re: Akil Thomas
Never heard of Burns. But aware of all the other names as we saw some on preseason for the Blues too. Nice update, and you are implying that Steve Ott has made a positive impact too by the style of pay
Re: Akil Thomas
My goodness. I was looking at the + - stats on Springfield and they are horrific,
This Blues Talk site is giving me fits. Could not correct Steve Ott comment to “play”

Re: Akil Thomas
He was the tenth pick of the third round in 2023, a major talent draft. We took Pekarcik two spots later. I expect Burns to play in the NHL. Timeline unknown.
Burns was captain for Kingston Frontenacs in the OHL before turning pro this year. He started out in the ECHL because they had to sort out their existing full defensive roster a bit before he got a spot.
He's a stalwart defender and very physical. I saw him make a defensive play on Misa last year that was world class. Basically stopped Misa doing his thing with an elegant puck strip and sent his man in on a 2-on-1 who rifled it in.

Re: Akil Thomas
not to derail the thread, but why is Dean a 4c?? at this point, there's something wrong if he's not in the top 6 in the ABluesfan1978 wrote: ↑31 Jan 2026 06:35 am He played last night. He was the 2C. Re: Akil Thomas
Don’t know. He played well yesterday and had a couple chances. Sometime teams will play you on the line they are projecting you to be in the NHL. No idea if that’s what they are doing.

if that's the case, they should have him on the 3rd lineBluesfan1978 wrote: ↑01 Feb 2026 14:16 pm Don’t know. He played well yesterday and had a couple chances. Sometime teams will play you on the line they are projecting you to be in the NHL. No idea if that’s what they are doing.
Re: Akil Thomas
He's played 22 games over the past 2 years, it will take him a minute to catch up. That is a lot of development time that has been missed and no amount of practicing can replace the pace of actual games.moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑01 Feb 2026 14:26 pmif that's the case, they should have him on the 3rd lineBluesfan1978 wrote: ↑01 Feb 2026 14:16 pm Don’t know. Hopefully he gets on track.
