RH Bat Options

Post by ggnoobs »

The only name I really saw possibly connected to the Cardinals in the category of free agent RH bats was Bader who signed in San Fran.

What about reuniting with Marcell Ozuna?

Apparently he has no market this offseason. He just turned 35. Still can hit pretty well. A detriment in the field.

Personally I'd rather see a prospect get the at bats in the outfield, but Bloom did say something about adding a free agent RH hitter.

My least favorite cardinals of all time. Please no. He should refund the money they paid him while he was here.

Haha, I agree with you. I did not really like him either. Of course he then goes elsewhere and hits like an allstar. 2 out of the last 3 years he had an OPS over .900 in ATL.

No doubt the guy can hit, especially when not a Cardinal. DH would be a good fit for him on this team. But with his off the field shenanigans, I would keep this joker as far away from my team of young, impressionable players as possible!!!

If he was the last piece of the puzzle, then sure. But, he can't be the first piece. Hard pass.

The Cardinals don't need a DH. That is all Ozuna is at this point in time. He is also a first class jerk. Ivan Herrera will probably be the Cardinal DH most of the time.

The best RH batting FA OF still available are Miguel Andujar and Austin Hays. These two will not cost a lot, and have been mentioned many times as possible Cardinal targets on MLB trade rumors and on this forum. Andujar is the one I prefer.

Grichuk, Pham, and Starling Marte have also been mentioned but IMO those would be poor choices.

Agree we don't want Ozuna. Disagree that we don't need a DH.

Cards have yet to use the DH role properly since its inception in the NL. Herrera may have been the best use last year, but that was because injuries forced that move. Cards need a full time DH that can mash.

DeWitt won't pay for that kind of batter.

Of the remaining FA's, I would prefer Hays.

Cardinals quietly add power bat that could push for a regular role in 2026
This could prove to be an interesting addition to the Cardinals' roster this year.

So it looks like Velasquez pushes for fifth OF role playing off of Church. He's played all 3 OF positions in the minors with RF being the most. Maybe that says his defense is OK? He has to translate minor league success at the plate to major league production

If Donovan isn't traded, maybe the spot isn't there for Velasquez after Nootbar gets back. Once they figure out Herrera belongs in LF, the opening will close. But that may be 2027.

If Walker doesn't break out? ... who knows? Hopefully Baez has comes strong in 2026.

Wouldn’t be bad but I don’t see it happening. I don’t think the cardinals are really sold on Herrera as catcher and he will be the DH or mostly DH and if miracles happen and he somehow is able to be a decent catcher they will use DH as a rotation spot to rest players

Pujols was the closest thing to it in 2022. What a fun development that was.

Agree we need a DH and have missed the boat thinking that 8 bats + bench Player = 9 starting bats. It doesn't.

But we did use Pujols as our primary DH in 2022 and had a great season. Since then, nothing.
