Who did he bring in that actually helps this team. Someone is going to mention Stone but I think he stands out because everyone else is so poor. Mack, Porter, Phillips, Northweather just don’t add much to this team.
He took the only guys he could get, none of them should have been recruited. The one guy he hit on, no one else wanted.
My belief is Gates gave big dollars to Mitchell, Robinson and Pierce and was running short on NIL money.
Next year, give Gates more NIL money and let him be competitive in the transfer portal.
If it's all about NIL, get rid of Gates because he can't coach a lick. Buy your players and get an X and O guy.

22% from three, 29% FT. Poor recruiting or poor coaching? Either way, it's on Gates.

What is scary is what you say has merit.
Your idea has to be considered.
I say give Gates the benefit of the doubt since he has a great recruiting class coming next year.
Demand Gates gets an experienced X and O guy.

The development of Pierce, Ant, Burns, and Boateng has been a sight to behold, Impressive for sure.

Kentucky getting drilled by Vanderbilt. Pope may be available after this year. But no thanks, just kidding. Gates will be here longer than Pope will be coaching the Cats. They are not patient, kind of spoiled from past success.

The offense seems to be 1 on 1 NBA style without NBA talent.

Wasn't long ago people were talking about getting into the tourney. That's laughable. Barrett was the only one who showed up tonight. Too many players with stone hands. Ant throws up an hairball on a free throw. He was AWFUL! Even Mitchell has been extremely inconsistent this year. It appears the awful play is infectious.

Opponents have learned that the best defense against Mizzou's free throws is to foul us, and let us shoot.

That may have been record setting awful at the line. Wonder if AI could look that up for me.

You know you're a lousy team when they only outshoot you by 41.9% to 39.4% from the field, you outrebound them 41 to 39, but still find a way to lose by 26.

I lost count of how many balls were lost that were in Mizzou's hands but Bama came up with.

The first 10 minutes (minus the first 4), the team looked decent. Then the wheels fell off.

It's not an NIL problem... it's an inability to identify and negotiate talent capable of playing at this level. Drake sure didn't have our budget last year. Notre Dame isn't spending big bucks in hoops... SLU... Nebraska? You can't bring in 11-12 castoffs from mid-majors and win consistently if you aren't a top-notch x's and o's coach, which Gates isn't.

Grill and Bates made this thing go last year with their ability to shoot from anywhere, but the team had no answer late in the season when those guys wore down and we had to look for scoring elsewhere or had to rely on defense and rebounding to get us to the finish line. Look i realize we don't have Kty, Arky, Duke NIL coffers- but quit trying to blame everything wrong with this team on a lack of money. It's too fundamentally flawed to bring out that excuse as the top reason we can't win consistently. It's roster building and lack of talent identification and an inability to coach/teach/demand basic basketball fundamentals like rebounding, defense, and making free throws.

Burns, Mack, and Boateng played a little last night- did anyone else besides Gates mistake them for SEC quality players - hell, at least two of them aren't even good D-2 talent. That's what the "great" recruiter brought us the past two years. It will turn out that the only player worth recruiting from high school since 23 might be TO. It's a collection of misfit toys, and it's time to return them for cash or donate them to goodwill- they aren't going to help this program going forward.

I don't want to hear excuses about NIL money limitations or race as an excuse for what ails Gates. He's paid a tremendous amount of money to do his job, and for a large portion of it, he has failed miserably. His timing was right to have performed best his first season at Mizzou- that and an idiot for AD has us handcuffed for another year or two with Gates. Maybe Fuller can help land some quality help in the portal this spring- we cannot rely on Gates to judge talent, because his track record says he's lousy at it.

It was good for the MU squad to get a look at Bediako, a NBA G-League pro. His focus on positioning and completing the FT's when he got to the line was good - he's been coached a LOT. MU players have the tats, the hair, and the attitude but not the game - their gangsta isn't going to translate to the NBA G-League except for perhaps Mitchell. Welcome to the reality of MU MBB. Gates has created a real s h eet show.

If you know anything about college basketball, then it didn't matter who Alabama was playing last night.

It just happened to be Mizzou.

Hmmm, let me see. Kansas by 20' Illinois by 43, Alabama by 26. Right. Nothing to see here.

If you weren't so focused on trolling, then you WOULD SEE those games fit the same situation too.

Ahh, right on time. I think you might want to consider changing your forum name to Chief Apologist.
