Re: Lots of positives for Blues this season
Also, one more positive and negative. This year even tho the team isn't that great 12-9-6 at home. If the team wasn't so abysmal in OT they would have some great home play happening. On the flipside 7-15-3 on the road. Even if you gave the 3 OT's a win, you are getting shalacked at 10-15. I think that speaks to matchup problems and how the team isn't a complete team. When they get to choose the matchups, they can hang, when the other team chooses they get smoked. This showed it's ugly head last year in the playoffs. Until game 7, it was a matchup issue. That has to be addressed at some point. They are too easily countered.

We’ll see when we get to the deadline what the positives are
Re: Lots of positives for Blues this season
In St. Louis Bolduc was relegated to the third line compared vs.to Holloway, consistently given top six minutes. He was only player on his line with any creativity. His Physicality is what I miss the most. This has nothing to do with my opinion of Mailloux - I see the same potential you do but he is getting fast tracked to find his stride in the NHL because of the situation.George Zipp wrote: ↑27 Jan 2026 08:28 am Bocomo-solid analyis of what we have seen this year.
Only real disagreement I have, and I've seen this all season, is the "price we paid" for Mailoux. Boulduc had a great 25 or so game stretch last year. The first half of last year he was absent. The first half plus of this year is is 10g 9a and a -13. And if I recall correctly about 7 or 8 of those points came in the first five games of this season when he was declared the second coming of Mario Lemieux on this board.
Like Mails, he is still young and may turn out to be something. Like Mails, he may be the guy we see now. Capable of some hot streaks but then disappears for long periods of time. And we don't lack too much depth at wing in the pipeline. We've already gotten a nice glimpse at what Stenberg is capable of. Carbonneau might be the real deal. I expect another solid prospect coming in the draft next year picking somewhere in the 2-8 range.
Re: Lots of positives for Blues this season
I think the positive is the prospects
Dvorsky and Stenberg Looks like they are going to be legit!
Jiricek turned his luck around. He is trending now in the right direction.
Carbonneau looks like he may be decent.
Lindstein looks like he’s maturing.
Steve Ott in the Ahl is gonna be great for the team. I think we see more of the prospects turn the corner. It’s a small sample size, but I like what I see so far.
Still lots of questions around Holloway Snuggerud and Neighbours. I think all three of these guys will be good for us in the long-term. All have shown special qualities. We are seeing some growing pains, but growing pains are good. Broberg as well.
Joel Hofer has been pretty good. He has definitely eliminated a lot of the questions I had.

Holloway was not on the 2nd line all year. HIs play pushed him up the lineup and when he joined with Kyrou and Schenn that line took off.Bocomo91 wrote: ↑27 Jan 2026 10:07 amIn St. Louis Bolduc was relegated to the third line compared vs.to Holloway, consistently given top six minutes. Bolduc was moved up and down the lineup but took off when he got moved to the 3rd line and started getting PP minutes.
Re: Lots of positives for Blues this season
Bolduc isnt all that unfortunately.
Hes an average guy.
Mailloux will pay off in the long run. Bolduc will be the next Sammy Blais etc etc.

Re: Lots of positives for Blues this season
Holloway had the advantage of playing top 6 minutes the entire second half of the season and playoffs. Bolduc did not. - Folks don't need to get offended that I think Bolduc is a good player. I have no issue with the trade. This was 1/2 percent of my original post.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑27 Jan 2026 12:24 pmHolloway was not on the 2nd line all year. The advantage being he earned it and he clicked with Kyrou and Schenn.Bocomo91 wrote: ↑27 Jan 2026 12:40 pmHolloway had the advantage of playing top 6 minutes the entire second half of the season and playoffs. Re: Lots of positives for Blues this season
Bolduc had a rough go in the playoffs 1 assist in 7. 16 PIMS. He was traded/became expendable due to his playoff performance in part. IMHO.
Bolduc is pacing for 29 pints this year. Hes a dime a dozen.
there are lots of positives for the Blues. I'd like to see more youth and less vets. Hoping GM will make a trade or two and keep this rebuild/retool going.

Re: Lots of positives for Blues this season
Bolduc has had a terrible January. In 13 games, he has 2 assists and is a -8. The Habs broadcast even had a small report on him trying to find his game.
I agree that Mailloux needed a mentor. Suter would've been nice, but he's not playing...with anyone. So I can't blame the Blues for not getting him, but I blame them for not getting someone.
Not a whole lot of positives this year, but here are some:
Dvorsky is starting to get it.
Stenberg is the player we thought.
Neighbours is hopefully going to hit 20 goals again and is emerging as a leader. Reminds me of a Jordan Staal, though not a center.
Mailloux, while rough, is at least getting playing time. And that's what he needs.
And Pius Suter is a bargain. Not a game changer, but very solid for the $ he makes.

Re: Lots of positives for Blues this season
One of the worst teams in pushing 60 years.
One of the least likable groups with little skill, heart and no identity.
That’s what stands out this year

Re: Lots of positives for Blues this season
The theme of this thread is take off the blinders and look at the big picture. In the 78-79 season the Blues went 18-50-12, two seasons later 45-18-17 (long my favorite Blues team). I believe there was a similar transition bottom out in 05-06 (I was in Atlanta trying to be a Thrashers fan). I'm not saying the Blues are two or three seasons away, I'm saying it's not likely to stay like this long term. There ARE some positives here.

Here's another one:
Last night, Buccigross said Blues lead league in rookie PP goals. Not bad!
