Re: Stenberg sent back to ahl
Why TODAY??? I get sending him down to play through the break, but WHY today? Is there some rule I'm not familiar with?
He's been in the middle of some of the prettiest scoring plays of the year and he's +4 in 18 games with this decrepit bunch!

Asset managment. He was exempt from waivers.
Someone or two may be coming back. This is simple roster managment.

If he played 1 more game he couldn't play through the break.

I guess that makes sense. What a strange rule though.
Re: Stenberg sent back to ahl
evidently if he played 1 more game he wouldnt be waiver exempt anymore sonthey send him down now before he plays 1 game so that he can be down to play through the break

Re: Stenberg sent back to ahl
Its nothing to do with losing his waiver exception, waiver exempt players playing 15 of the last 20 are entitled to the break for the Olympics.
Re: Stenberg sent back to ahl
How long does he have to be down?
And when he comes back, can he be waiver exempted again? If so, will there still be the same number of games he is allowed up here before having to do it again?
And assume that it means games in lineup, not just on roster?
If we were in the race, then I would say keep him, because he's reliable, consistent, one of our better players, and waive one of the other low salaries. But at his age, it's probably better to play during the next two weeks than to be getting sunburnt on the beach. And maybe he can take Lindstein under his wing and impart something that helps him to get up here sooner, or some other promising player?
He'll be back ASAP.
In the meantime, how is Dean doing?

Re: Stenberg sent back to ahl
He will be back right after some trades are made. He will go down with his shoulders up knowing he belongs here.
Once that happens he won’t go down again, not after how he has played. I’ve said it before but I think I’m one of the few that believe he may end up better than Dvo or Snuggy, and I think they will also be very good.

Re: Stenberg sent back to ahl
He’s a much different player than Dvo and Snuggs as they are shooters while Otto is a playmaker/smart detail player but yes I agree that we might have stuck gold for a very late 1st round pick!diehardbluesfan1 wrote: ↑26 Jan 2026 14:39 pm He will be back right after some trades are made. Re: Stenberg sent back to ahl
sounds like some other posters were more on top of this. If he couldn't play 1 more game then this makes all the sense in the world. It covers 2 thing for the Blues. He gets to play during the break with the AHL team which is the most important thing at the moment. The guys getting playing time needs as much as possible. And the Blues have to sort out what they are going to with their roster moving forward. Joseph, Fabbri, Berg, Hollywood Sunny Kessel. Those are the people up at the end of the year. I'd have to imagine that Berg and Hollywood get contracts here. Fabbri will be the guy who is out for Stenberg if nothing changed today. But they might just end up making trades. The trade possibilities that actually open roster spots up (not binner since he would have to be replaced nor faulk since same) would be Schenn, Kyrou, Thomas, Suter? Can't really guess that anyone else would bring anything back. I can see Suter for some mid round pick, and 1 of either Kyrou or Thomas.
In those scenarios you need guys to fill the spots so you can't just be cutting guys all willy nilly. Stenberg will be back.

Re: Stenberg sent back to ahl
Makes sense to sacrifice a few games of him here, to allow him to play in the AHL for the 3 week break. He will be back after the Olympics and won’t go back down again. Good roster management and good development to keep him playing.

Otto and Otter miss each other.
