Trent Pierce
Somebody please explain to me the usage of Pierce by Gates, I would rather see him start over Crews who at this point is a 1 trick pony that really doesn't do anything beyond the 3 point shot and he's having a harder time getting open than earlier in the season. It just seems the substitution of Crews with Pierce starting would be a much better approach, any insight from the people on here that know much more about Bball than I do?

Would like to see TO, Stone, Pierce, Mitchell, and Phillips starting. Use Ant and Crews off the bench. (And then maybe Boateng and Randall sparingly.)
Re: Trent Pierce
Gates will always be loyal to seniors. But really, Pierce is getting starter minutes off the bench so Pierce good.
But you asked about Phillips. Tho he had a decent game yesterday, as far as the season, did you know Phillips has one of the lowest net rating of any big man in the SEC and basketball.? The guy is normally horrible. Doesn’t really do any thing well consistently at 7 ft.

Re: Trent Pierce
Pierce was not seen for stretches in the OU game. He needs to play until he can't run, catch a 45 second breather and then be back in

Agreed.
The gloves need to finally come off.
I've never been convinced Pierce is all that but he's coming out of his shell now and give him all the minutes he can eat.
32 minutes or so a game at least.

I have to agree 11, Pierce right now is JAG, as he has been for his entire tenure with the Tigers. No doubt he has the capability to be a difference maker, just haven't seen it yet. Let the guy play big minutes and see if he can live up to the hype. Cue cockroach.11WSChamps wrote: ↑26 Jan 2026 10:13 amAgreed.

Re: Trent Pierce
Phillips doesn’t deserve to start. He’s not much of a basketball player. He sure as hell doesn’t need to be on the court during the last 5 minutes or so of a close game.Rantz wrote: ↑25 Jan 2026 19:19 pm Gates will always be loyal to seniors. Re: Trent Pierce
At this point I like this starting lineup. It's really the only one that makes sense. I still don't think it'll matter much, this team just doesn't have the offensive firepower to hang with any decent team and they give up way to many 3's on defense.Cardinals4Life wrote: ↑25 Jan 2026 18:17 pmAgree.pbbrower wrote: ↑25 Jan 2026 12:32 pm Somebody please explain to me the usage of Pierce by Gates, I would rather see him start over Crews who at this point is a 1 trick pony that really doesn't do anything beyond the 3 point shot and he's having a harder time getting open than earlier in the season. Anyone heard about Boateng??
Re: Trent Pierce
I haven't read anything official yet as to diagnosis. Gates said in post-game interview that 9 times out of 10 an injury like Boateng's is season-ending, which makes it sound like ACL or MCL or patella tendon or quad tear or something like that.
Re: Trent Pierce
The weird thing is that it looked like he skidded on the same spot on the floor where he had just slipped when he made his previous dunk 10 seconds earlier. I thought, wow he slipped on that same spot then when he didn't get up it was obvious there was an injury. I still don't know if there was something on the court that caused it or not but it was right at that same spot.
Re: Trent Pierce
While I think it's a better lineup I still don't think that have the overall play to get to the tourney. When they are shooting hot they van pull away but as soon as they cool off it gets kinda ugly. At least they were able to make some FTs this time to seal the win. I don't think that'll hold up against the likes Tenner, Arky or Vandy. Even Arky, OU and Texas in the road will extremely tough for this team. I'm hard pressed to see more than 4 wins the rest of the way.Cardinals4Life wrote: ↑01 Feb 2026 12:17 pmGood to see that Gates used this starting lineup, finally!onemizzou wrote: ↑26 Jan 2026 17:28 pmAt this point I like this starting lineup. Re: Trent Pierce
Yeah I got a couple thing scrambled there, I mean Arky and Texas at home will be very tough. ZeroU on the road will be nearly impossible.straight out of st louis robert ave wrote: ↑01 Feb 2026 14:10 pmTexas is a home game.
