Re: Vancouver and Stenberg
If the Blues win the lottery, maybe they can use that as leverage against the Canucks and get a player or high draft pick for letting them pick McKenna

Thanks for the responsePierre McGuire wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 08:44 amOh his dream was always to play for the Canucks. Playing for his hometown team or with his cousin? Just asking your opinion

I get the whole hometown guy bit, but unless Brady (turns 27 September) is seen as the final piece how does he fit in a rebuild/retool ?Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 08:41 amIt won’t be that pick but I could see using another first rounder that we acquire and I don’t believe a deal for Brady has ever been out the equation….its been a possibility for a few years.noted wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 08:32 amBlues are going to use the pick to trade for Brady who is going to ask out of Ottawa after this season.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 07:49 amVancouver is taking McKenna for many reasons, one of which is possibly stealing Bedard away from Chicagosouthernblues wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 07:38 am Looks like they want to draft Stenberg instead of McKenna. Still gonna need some older vets down the road. Who knows…maybe the ship has sailed. Gut feeling says the Blues still have intereststeve li wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 09:18 amI get the whole hometown guy bit, but unless Brady (turns 27 September) is seen as the final piece how does he fit in a rebuild/retool ?Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 08:41 amIt won’t be that pick but I could see using another first rounder that we acquire and I don’t believe a deal for Brady has ever been out the equation….its been a possibility for a few years.noted wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 08:32 amBlues are going to use the pick to trade for Brady who is going to ask out of Ottawa after this season.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 07:49 amVancouver is taking McKenna for many reasons, one of which is possibly stealing Bedard away from Chicagosouthernblues wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 07:38 am Looks like they want to draft Stenberg instead of McKenna. Re: Vancouver and Stenberg
What exactly is the deal with McKenna? Before this season I was reading about him being a better prospect than Bedard, now he is dropping out of first overall and I have even seen him drop out of 2nd overall in some mock drafts. I’ve read his play has been criticized this year but haven’t really seen anything elaborating on that.

Re: Vancouver and Stenberg
He’s been at the top for the last 3 years…his only option was to fall off a little. People look for flaws and focus on that. He’s still the guy no matter what all talking heads are saying. They have to have something to talk about for the next 6 monthsBanner29 wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 09:39 am What exactly is the deal with McKenna? More than a little bit of "Bum Kyrou"-syndrome in his play with Penn State.Banner29 wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 09:39 am What exactly is the deal with McKenna? Very little interest in playing defense
No interest in the physical game
General lack of effort/intensity
Almost exclusively a perimeter player(very little interest in going to the tough areas)
What nobody seems to have an answer for is why those traits have crept into his game(he did NOT play like that in the WHL).
A- If they are legitimate parts of his personality, it's a big time red flag.
B- If it's just an adjustment to playing against bigger and older college athletes and he turns it around in the 2nd half of the season, it's a concern but not a major one("He'll get there eventually").
C- If it's just a "boredom" thing playing against less talented players; it's an overblown issue.
Personally, I think it's more a combination of B and C more than a real personality flaw. We saw him flip the switch in the WJC's. The "stud" is clearly still in there.

Re: Vancouver and Stenberg
Sounds like Vancouver’s leaning toward McKenna, but if they end up going with Stenberg, either way the Blues are fine. McKenna’s a legit game-changer, no question.
That said, I’d personally love Stenberg — just so we can roll out the Stenberg brothers. That alone would be worth it.

Things change. Times change. Re: Vancouver and Stenberg
The Blackhawks are going to be just fine in a year or two — they’re clearly on the rise.
Re: Vancouver and Stenberg
He'll have the power to force it much earlier than that if he wants. I'm not saying he will or has any interest in doing so but he does have power outside UFA
Re: Vancouver and Stenberg
I'd be happy with either, but I lean toward your view as well.ManitobaBlues wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 10:17 am Sounds like Vancouver’s leaning toward McKenna, but if they end up going with Stenberg, either way the Blues are fine. McKenna’s a legit game-changer, no question.

I'm disappointed to be watching every other night to see what it will take for this to happen, but that's all we fans can do.

Bedard isn’t going anywhere. Chicago’s going to pay him, and the Hawks are going to be very good.skilles wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 10:23 amHe'll have the power to force it much earlier than that if he wants. Re: Vancouver and Stenberg
If Chi jumps over us and takes McKenna, Vancouver takes Stenberg. We aren't catching Vancouver except by lottery ball.zamadoo wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 08:48 amThis has all the makings for CHI to win the lottery and take McKenna. Then hopefully Blues can take Ivar.Younghopp1991 wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 08:10 amNo problem backes. All you need to know is if we draft #1 or 2, we will have a fun storline. 2 stenberg brothers on the same team, or chi vs stl bedard vs his cousin. Easy scriptBackesdraft wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 08:04 am Appreciate it Young and Pierre. I suppose a Google search could have gotten me there. Thanks for filling me in though - I didn’t know that.
