1 more pitcher on a one-year deal
I would love to sign a veteran arm who can give us some innings. Lots of questions marks with our current starting staff, especially guys coming back from injuries and most likely on pitch counts.

Anyone on that list you would take a chance on?
Chris Bassitt on a $10 million dollar, 1-year deal? If he is doing well, trade him to a contender at the deadline. Provides some veteran leadership as well.
Call me crazy, but I have always wondered how Germán Márquez could do outside of Colorado with a good defense behind him. Dude is somehow still only 30?!?!
Frankie Montas is two years removed from 30 starts and a 4.84 ERA, I think he is a prime candidate for a one-year deal.

Bloom said he was looking for another veteran starter after signing may so it will probably happen

Garbage in garbage out. Keep signing slop and don't be surprised when it gets sloppy.

If he'd do a reasonable 1 or 2 year deal I'd say Zack Littell still young enough (29)

With the pitchers they have they better sign more than one.

I am okay with the current staff choices. Competition breeds success and surprises. Tired of washed up so so veterans. If the guy is only good for a 4.00 ERA then let it be a young guy with room to improve. Why stifle talent in the minors while some 33 year old on a short contract gives you a 4+ era? Let the kids play.

+1 competition is good. It’s hilarious that the cardinals overpaid for Lynn and Gibson who had ERAs of 5.73 and 4.73 and people say we like the moves cards are going for it but if they trade for pitchers fitts with a 5.00 ERA and dobins 4.13 ERA because they aren’t expensive people say cards are tanking! Doom gloom!StlMike1969 wrote: ↑23 Jan 2026 21:00 pm I am okay with the current staff choices. Competition breeds success and surprises. Tired of washed up so so veterans. You have May/Libby/McGreevy
Fitts & Dobbins get a look.
Pallante is always a fallback.
Leahy gets a look at starting?
I could see Mathews early on also.
Never hurts to sign a vet for a year but I’d give the others a shot first.

Actually with you on this one.
May satisfies the 1 year wonder role.
There are not any Cardinals SP with a single full MLB season in the books but AP.
I would not sign anybody who doesn't warrant signing for more than a season, preferably 3.
For the flip them crowd. Any productive SP with contract that matches is flippable more so from a higher self. Give the in vogue option outs. If they have a QO attached they use it to try FA without one.

Why would anyone want to flip a productive cheap pitcher? I mean it doesn't make sense.renostl wrote: ↑23 Jan 2026 22:36 pmActually with you on this one.

Your reality....We'll get or trade for cheap blue chip prospects, then when they become special we'll flip or trade them for even more blue plate specials. LOL How'd that work out for all the other MLB teams? That Cubs dynasty lasted a long time didn't it? Houston's garbage can scandal lasted a long time didn't it? What other teams have won through the vaunted system of flipping assets and tanking?Stlcardsblues wrote: ↑23 Jan 2026 21:12 pmIt’s not garbage if they pitch well and you flip them for prospects. I get you don’t like living in reality, but this is where Mo left the state of the franchise.

Oh come on. Productive cheap pitchers get flipped all the time. Haven't you noticed? A team on the way to 75 wins looks at talent in a different way than a team that's pushing for a championship. The also-ran wants to cash in, the winner wants to load up. Both are right. Why would anyone want to flip a productive cheap pitcher? I mean it doesn't make sense.

Nowhere in my post did I say to take the guys we got a flip them when they are established MLB players. I only mentioned singing the players now and flipping them for pieces to help us compete when that window opens.CCard wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 08:54 amYour reality....We'll get or trade for cheap blue chip prospects, then when they become special we'll flip or trade them for even more blue plate specials.
