Winnipeg native Joel Hofer will start for the St. Louis Blues when they face the Jets on Tuesday night at Canada Life Centre (7 p.m., FanDuel Sports Network, 101 ESPN).
The goaltender is 6-2-0 with a 2.00 goals-against average, a .932 save percentage and two shutouts since Dec. 17, which ranks among the NHL's best in that span. His historical numbers against his hometown team are even better.

As suspected, they brought Holloway back too soon. He only had 12:45 of ice time in the Oiler game and they showed the trainer checking on him several times. Just shut him down until after the Olympics along with anyone who is nursing injuries that affect their play.

If this Blues lineup is true then that means Montgomery is capable of learning from past mistakes.

Just so stupid. They do it frequently. There was no reason to rush him, especially with the Olympics coming up. High ankle sprains are one of those things that will linger all season long, especially if guys come back too early.TruBlueFan_1970 wrote: ↑20 Jan 2026 12:41 pm As suspected, they brought Holloway back too soon. Winni has picked it up at least a little bit. Although the nail HAS been in the coffin, but will a loss tonight be the final? We will see if they continue to not score tonightseattleblue wrote: ↑20 Jan 2026 12:48 pm an advantage toward second best odds in the lottery on the line

I'm no Monty fan but IF they brought back Holloway to soon it's not on him.
This is professional sports. When you are cleared you play. You play for your team AND for yourself.
If people want to speculate the medical staff is suspect, then so be it. I have no idea if they are or not, but I do know if you are cleared you play.

Hofer gets the start and he's promoting prospects instead of fill ins. Stay tuned to see what the power play looks like...TruBlueFan_1970 wrote: ↑20 Jan 2026 12:46 pmIn what way?BalotelliMassive wrote: ↑20 Jan 2026 12:45 pm If this Blues lineup is true then that means Montgomery is capable of learning from past mistakes.

+1 No reason the team would push him to come back too soon the way the season is going. Medical staff only knows so much from tests so they depend on the players to complete the picture.gpe13579 wrote: ↑20 Jan 2026 13:03 pm I'm no Monty fan but IF they brought back Holloway to soon it's not on him.

Could be he just needs to work back in at a slower pace.

My guess is when he fell in to the boards in the 3rd period ruffly at 13 45 mark last game against the Oilers.hotrivets wrote: ↑20 Jan 2026 13:09 pm+1 No reason the team would push him to come back too soon the way the season is going. The Camera show him at the ruffly the 11 40 mark , kinda bent over at the bench and the assistant trainer was behind him talking to him.and even Chris Kerber mention this at the time.
Holliday never came out for another shift.
So just A GUESS on my part he might of got hurt again.

Love Holloway as a player and a competitor. With that said, they need to be real careful with his contract and his injury history, both here and in EDM.oldbattler wrote: ↑20 Jan 2026 14:08 pmMy guess is when he fell in to the boards in the 3rd period ruffly at 13 45 mark last game against the Oilers.hotrivets wrote: ↑20 Jan 2026 13:09 pm+1 No reason the team would push him to come back too soon the way the season is going. If he came back too soon, I put some blame for this on Holloway. He is the kind of guy who lives and breathes to set off fireworks on the ice. I don't think he was all the way back from having one of his goddanged obliques reattached to his hip ( it might have torn off his ribcage). Those are huge muscles. I am sure it killed him to see the team blow it in the Jet series and I have little doubt he wanted to play as soon as humanly possible. A high ankle sprain is a killer as well. You think it's fine and take one strange stride, and you are out again.hotrivets wrote: ↑20 Jan 2026 13:09 pm+1 No reason the team would push him to come back too soon the way the season is going. I can''t get mad at Hollywood, I just wish he had a little bit more "caution" in his game plan... but that is unlikely.
He could be our Pistol Pete Reiser if this continues.

I agree.
He sure seems to be injury prone.
