What power play? The Blues rank 25th in the NHL in that area.

Re: Otter
Bolduc had 7 goals and I think most of them was when he slid over to the middle of the ice between the two circles and flinged the puck over the goalie, with a low to high trajectory as I remember. Obviously he must have had a wicked shot from there, but I always thought that would be predictable and the opposition would catch on and he would be watched and interfered with so he couldn't get off that shot. Maybe Bolduc's shot was that good!? (Ovechkin and Perron for example set up around the left circle and fired goal after goal in from that area so maybe some players shots are just that tricky that they have a scoring knack. I'll leave that to you ex playing experts).
So here's my point: We've seen Dvorsky set up shop on the right side of the goalie with a wicked looking shot that also flings over the goalie much like Bolduc's did in my opinion. So to me, why couldn't the coaching staff train Dvorsky to play in the same pattern of Bolduc? I think they havethe same type shot.
For that matter, why not try try to duplicate Ovi/Perron with Kyrou and Snuggie? In the vein of Kyrou he misses too many. (He can't bear down an hit a spot better so it doesn;t fly off he back board or glass and out. Snuggerrud maybe. can be more accurate from the left circle.Truly I think Thomas has the best and most accurate shot like Perron had he decided not to pass it around the perimeter.
I digress a lot. Sorry.. For now, the bottom line is I welcome you guys to comment on if you agree or disagree that Dvorsky's typical power play shot is similar enough to Bolduc's that the coaches could lay out the same patterns for him or train Snuggie to do what Ovi/Perron do. Or maybe some of you think that Boldc's pattern got too familiar and he would no have success anymore. .

I would love to see him get pp time. He has a very good shot and likely more accurate than the rest of the Blue line save Justin. I also think he has made good plays in the Ozone successfully moving the puck.MiamiLaw wrote: ↑19 Jan 2026 13:11 pmI don't understand why Mailloux is not at least getting a bit of powerplay time too. Isn't offense his specialty? It can't get much worse. Why do they not try to see what they have in him?ManitobaBlues wrote: ↑19 Jan 2026 13:09 pm What the hell — so everyone suddenly thinks we’re about to see some massive power-play surge? With what, exactly? It’s the same (drat) clowns on the ice. How is a coaching change magically fixing that? You can swap the voice behind the bench all you want, but if the personnel doesn’t change, neither does the power play. This isn’t rocket science.
Power plays come down to talent and shooting — simple as that. We don’t have a true PP quarterback, and until we do, it’s not changing. Coaching isn’t the issue. Just watch the Oilers’ power play. That’s not some genius system — that’s raw, elite talent on that first unit. Until we have players like that, expecting a miracle on the PP is just wishful thinking.
I doubt Monty does it but it would charge him to be focused on his offense versus his present charge to be focused on his defense.
On an aside if I were Monty i would make relatively drastic changes on both pp units.
Re: Otter
I think so too Russ. I would have thought they would try to duplicate that Bolduc area more often this year with 21 and 54. They both have rockets. But then again, there is a lot going on this year that I can't figure out, in addition to this.Russdv14 wrote: ↑19 Jan 2026 17:30 pm Bolduc had 7 goals and I think most of them was when he slid over to the middle of the ice between the two circles and flinged the puck over the goalie, with a low to high trajectory as I remember. Re: Otter
I like Otter but I cant believe he survived all the regime changes over the years. Especially since the Blues never had a top ranked PP during his time here. Forget emulating Bolduc. These guys need to go out there and emulate the stars that got them to love the game of hockey...F' Bolduc! Even Bolducs shot couldnt fix this. These guys need to figure out why they play this game besides the paycheck. Its not the fringe players dragging this team down, its the core. These guys are too accepting of mediocrity and subpar play. This team has no heart, no desire, no soul, no identity. This is more Army's fault than it is Montys. This is more Thomas, Buch, Kyrou, Schenn, Parayko and Binny's fault than it is Monty's. Id add Faulk in there too but hes having a season. This is a dead core and no amount of changing fringe players is going to turn these guys into winners again. A couple of them at least got to go. Locker room needs a new vibe.

Re: Otter
I agree completely Ott may not have been a great offensive coach but he sure was a sound all around player, I think we need someone in the AHL that can help a few guys round out their games.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑19 Jan 2026 10:06 am The reality of this move is Konowalchuk wasnt getting it done and having Ott down there will be a big benefit. He'll make sure that whatever Monty wants to implement is getting passed along to the younger guys. This is a positive move

Re: Otter
Bolduc and and Kyrou have at least one trait in common. They are both dangerous in odd man situations.
That’s not enough if you can swap either for a Logan Mailloux in my opinion.

Re: Otter
The PP plan-if there is one- seems to be passing around the perimeter and then trying to force a pass to the middle through several defenders. Doing that more urgently isn't going to be effective. We need more movement down low which forces defenders to move and eventually you get a passing or shooting lane. When we are pressured it gets worse- they have no plan for that. You don't get ranked at the bottom with a good plan- that is just dumb.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑19 Jan 2026 17:14 pmI don't know what's bad about it. "I'm going to take over the power play initially, probably until (the Olympic) break. Then what it does is, it means that our communication levels, when you have a smaller staff, they increase. You have to make sure we're dialing in about everything because everybody has to do a little bit more, which is good
Monty on what he wants to see from PP: "Execution and urgency -- that would be the two things. I always felt Steve Ott had a great game plan, to the point where I continually learned from him daily with every different type of scheme the other team might have. He always had an answer for how we're going to make it work. I think right now it's about execution and urgency. We've got to be getting to that net and that blue paint more often, that's all

I think Ott will have a huge influence on a player like Dean and will no doubt be better for the prospects development overall.
Re: Otter
Speaking of Dean. It's a few days ago, but he got his first goal of the season. Nice to see him back.Bluesfan1978 wrote: ↑20 Jan 2026 09:08 am I think Ott will have a huge influence on a player like Dean and will no doubt be better for the prospects development overall.

He has the potential to be another Neighbours, only with a bit less physicality and a bit more finesse.

The one where they keep getting better over the past three seasons? The one where they have to take contracts of players that are basically retired like Shea Webber to meet the salary cap floor? The one that's currently in front of the Blues in the standings?Natl20 wrote: ↑20 Jan 2026 10:57 amMeans we should take the Blackhawks development modelkimzey59 wrote: ↑19 Jan 2026 09:05 amKonowalchuk has Springfield at the 4th worst record in the AHL.BalotelliMassive wrote: ↑19 Jan 2026 08:45 am Now he's going to ruin the prospects.

Nah...keep doing what you're doing....this Blues team will have half the points of the 24-25 team with the same players. Brilliant.
