The Pitt
Started watching a show on Amazon Prime (it's actually a MAX show) called the Pitt about an ER in Pittsburgh. It stars Noah Wyle who was on the 90's drama ER. Each episode is an hour of their shift which sees them deal with heartbreak and an active shooter situation. It's one of the better shows that I have seen in a while.
Re: The Pitt
We started watching it and it is pretty amazing. My wife works in healthcare and she loves how realistic it is. It's an emotional roller coaster for sure and I highly recommend it.

Re: The Pitt
I’m up to about noon. I like the show. When it first came out my thoughts were I don’t much care for a sequel to ER given the involvement of Noah Wylie and John Wells. It’s obviously not that.
The concept is interesting and the medical stories compelling though at times they clearly are going way over the top with the emotional heartstring pulling. I get it but still.
My biggest concern is how do they really develop the characters in this format? We see how they are at work and I suppose that’s the point. The dynamics of who likes who and who does not, the butt kissing seems to be the extent.
All of the above said I really enjoy it and glad I saw it just for re upped for S2

Re: The Pitt
Season 2 is off to another strong start after the 1st episode. Excited to have this show back. Writers/Editors continue doing a good job of using cliffhangers to keep you invested until the next episode.
So, any guesses as to what was on that newborn's chart?

Yeah, this was orginally developed as a reboot of ER, and it seems to me like an emotionally broader, more network TV version of that. Which is odd, since ER was on NBC and this is streaming. (It makes me curious to revisit ER and see if it is as gritty as I remember.)George Zipp wrote: ↑08 Apr 2025 10:35 am I’m up to about noon. I like the show. IMO , The Pitt's biggest problem is the overwrought real-time conceit. Didn't Jack Bauer teach us 20 years ago what a drag that becomes after episode 2?
But the acting is bringing it. Wyle has a breakdown at the end of season 1 that made me wonder if he--the actor Noah Wyle--is doing ok.
Re: The Pitt
I'm not really into hospital shows, but was probably going to give this one a shot until I found out about the litigation between Wyle and the ER producers, who claim he stole this. I think this was even supposed to be his ER character originally.Dicktar2023 wrote: ↑14 Jan 2026 19:58 pmYeah, this was orginally developed as a reboot of ER, and it seems to me like an emotionally broader, more network TV version of that. Also there's some reported weirdness about how he both portrays (on screen) and treats (IRL) the characters/cast of color. I hope that's not too "political" to say (

Where are you reading/hearing about the rumors surrounding Noah Wylie and his treatment of his castmates? I know there were some questions regarding the removal of the Dr. Collins character and whether it had anything to do with the actress's church but that doesn't seem to be the case.3dender wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 07:38 amI'm not really into hospital shows, but was probably going to give this one a shot until I found out about the litigation between Wyle and the ER producers, who claim he stole this. I believe the show creators did originally intend to reboot ER but Michael Crichton's (creator of ER) wife wouldn't go along so they had to change up the dynamic of the show - add the time element and different characters. As someone who watched ER, the only similarities seem to be the setting and the main actor. Should be a sufficient enough change to make it its own entity. If not, should Crichton's wife sue the creators of Grey's Anatomy, House, Scrubs, The Good Doctor, Chicago Med, New Amsterdam, The Resident, Chicago Hope, Diagnosis: Murder, etc.?
Perhaps the creators of St. Elsewhere or Marcus Welby, MD should sue Michael Crichton's estate?

Re: The Pitt
Watched EP1 S2 last night. Without spoiling much (warning, sliver of spoilers coming) I'm not sure I'm going to be a fan of all of the conflict, corporate [nonsense] and changes (the patient form that was introduced) that is being brought in by the new attending who is going to either cover or take over for Robby while he goes on his walkabout after the day of this season ends.
I did not enjoy their dynamic at all. Either they are going to spend the entire season in conflict (likely) or will be banging in the ambulance bay by hour 7 (semi likely).
I guess to further nitpick, when they introduced the interns last season they were all almost immediately likeable or at least interesting. The two introduced last night, ummmm, not so much.
Still well acted, good storylines and will very much stick with it. My complaints above are more me being me.
Also interested to know more about the statements about Wylie and the treatment of others. Haven't heard a thing about that.

Misogyny/racism claims from ER days... wrote off one of the only black (woman) characters on the show after S1... can pronounce all of his collaborators' names except for the two women of color he's worked with closely for months (Shabana Azeez and Tracy Ifeachor)... weird dogwhistles about the Arab (woman) doctor.todd-parker wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 08:16 amWhere are you reading/hearing about the rumors surrounding Noah Wylie and his treatment of his castmates? Taken in isolation you can write each of them off as nbd. When you start listing them out it seems a bit pattern-y.

Re: The Pitt
Didn't take long to find out info about why Tracy Ifeachor (likely) left the show. You all can take this with whatever grain of salt you like. I'm just the messenger here. This all comes from a Reddit thread on the show and other random assorted google search results.
The official message from the show is the Pitt wants to maintain some realism and continuity in that she was a 4th year resident and her time had come to go out and get another job. Under this theory the first season took place on September 5 and Season 2 takes place on July 4 the following year. That's ten months. It's not an unreasonable explanation. I also am not aware of any of the other characters being 4th year residents. The lady with the leg monitor was probably close. Lorazapam guy was probably past that and was employed in the ER (I think). Again, I'm just the messenger.
The more rumor type innuendo out there is that she is a member of a hardcore far right church in England that is known for it's homophobic beliefs among other standard far right beliefs. That clashed with the belief system of Wylie. She allegedly also had a huge problem with the abortion storyline she was part of. This was the reason we saw little to none of her towards the end of last season.
Take all of that as you will.

Writers/Wyle claim they had always planned her character to be only one season, fwiw.George Zipp wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 10:35 am Didn't take long to find out info about why Tracy Ifeachor (likely) left the show. Well I am 3 episodes into season 1, and I am hooked. I think it's pretty great. But what do I know? I like Pluribus too.

It doesn't seem like anyone "stole" anything. WB passed on a straight ER sequel, so Wyle and Wells took the show to HBO and revamped it. Then the widow Crichton sued them all for not giving her husband credit/money.3dender wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 07:38 amI'm not really into hospital shows, but was probably going to give this one a shot until I found out about the litigation between Wyle and the ER producers, who claim he stole this. Re: The Pitt
I've watched both episodes this season and I am not a fan of the dynamic between Dr. Robby and Dr. Al-Hashimi. Just not interested in her corporate ER attending ways and how it butts heads with Dr. Robby. They totally queued up something that is going to happen later in the season with the AI charting dictation app.
I'm not going to bail on the show because it's still rock solid but just not digging this part of the storyline right now.

Finished season 1 and thought it was great. Acting was top-notch and it seemed very realistic, in terms of the day to day coordination of a major city hospital ER ward. I keep waiting for Dr. King to let everyone else know that SHE IS THE DANGER!
Her dad is Bryan Cranston, just in case that hilarious joke flew over anybody's head.
