The Blues can be buyers and sellers,

Post by AtillaTheBlue1 »

the thought of many GM's n sports, that you have to be one or the other, is so ignorant.

you arent in a must sell with this team, regardless of how they finish up to break.

Buy for next seasons, sell for this season, while also improving the team. To thomas struggles, he has 2 wingers who are pretty worthless. You get some one who can finish on that line, and he and the line improves.

What if your core belief is you can’t win with Thomas? That he isn’t part of the leadership group?

Do you trade wingers and build around something you don’t believe in?

This is a huge problem

It's a huge question mark for sure. Time will tell if they think they can't win with Thomas.
Their core group has to change but it is highly doubtful they either can or want to get rid of the entire group.
The problem is which players do you move and what is the cost/gain to do so..

Do you retain salary?
Do you include a draft pick to move untradeable players?
With NTC's, it limits the number of trade options
Is a buyout even an option?

Lots of decisions to make- none of them are easy

I’m more in the mindset of sell now, buy in the offseason.

I get that playoff revenue is huge for this franchise, but it’s not happening this year. The ditch is too deep, they are currently 5th from the bottom and in a close race for 2nd to last while having more games played
28.) St Louis 46/49 pts/gm
29.) Calgary 46/48 pts/gm
30.) Chicago 45/48 pts/gm
31.) Winnipeg 44/47 pts/gm
32.) Vancouver 37/48 pts/gm
There are five teams in the West w/50-51 points, and six others w/+54 points or more. Thats a lot of ground to cover and luck to go your way with 33 Games left in the season.

Considering last year, they squeaked in with 96 Points thanks in part to a 12 Game Winning Streak (24 points). They need 50 points in 33 Games and a 12 Game Winning Streak doesn’t even get you halfway there.

In my opinion, they are simply better to depart with chips today and recover in the offseason.
