Sultan

First time going there tonight. Food was really good. Near tower grove on Manchester. Recommend it if you’re in the mood for middle eastern/ Mediterranean

I've eaten there several times. Great food, especially the pilau.

It's a mom and pop place, so the service can be, uh, feckless. But it's worth the patience.

Yea, this place rules. Agree that the pilau is pretty great.

I concur. I've been numerous times and every time the food is spot on. All of the dips on the app menu, the hummus, babaganoosh type dishes are fantastic and the Nan they serve with it is great. Main courses offer a solid variety of beef, chicken and vegetarian.

They don't serve alcohol which doesn't bother me but it bothers some. And as stated above the service can be a bit flighty at times but it's one of those places where you just shrug and wait it out.

They closed down from August to about late October this year for some renovations. Right before they shut we were in there and chatted with the owners. They mentioned they were going home during the construction. Home was either Iraq or Jordan. Not sure which. If the columnist is from one of those countries then maybe there is a relation. Tend to doubt it.

Has anyone considered that sultan might not be their name, but they might have chosen it because a sultan is a Middle Eastern monarch? The name denotes power and strength. We might compare it to the former restaurant in Maplewood called Monarch.

She's Pakistani. She is a Muslim. Most Lebanese are Christian.
