Congrats to the Tigers on a nice win- I was asked the day before if I thought we'd beat Auburn- I said by double digits, so thanks to Stone for the delivering the final dunk to get us there.
Pierce's best all-around game since arriving in Como- that's the player we've been told was a NBA prospect since day one. He looked like it last night- now if he can get in game shape, watch out.
Minus the final two minutes, TO played terrific ball on the offensive end. He attacked, got to the line, and made shots in the paint. He's a mismatch physically for a lot of pg's. He looked hungry last night, and filled in nicely when Ant decided to be a ghost for much of the evening.
Free throw shooting was much improved- excellent if you take Mitchell out of the numbers. Speaking of MM, he did it with volume last night, but more impressive to me was his passing and his defense/rebounding. He's unorthodox, but man is he effective around the hoop.
Need some help at the 5... big man is going to have to learn to catch the ball and go up... he makes himself awfully small when he has to gather around the hoop. Loved the man-dunk he got in the second half. Need more of that from him.
Boateng- in the words of a southern women, "Bless him" He has the worst hands I've even seen for a wing player. Fumbles passes and rebounds, gets blocked by the rim or opposition on dunk attempts. Not sure where that high 4-star rating came from. Drink could use him at defensive end- body by Adonis, hands of stone.
Gates pushed a lot of correct buttons last night- only thing I would complain (and cuss loudly about) was seeing a lineup with Boateng, Randall, and TO on the court at the same time. Can't survive many minutes of that group playing together, and I'm glad the 12 minute tv timeout got there just in time. Going to have to work on the press. It's taught in middle and high school not to inbound the ball in corners or to stop your dribble just across the midcourt line. We did it repeatedly last night, and it almost wiped out a dd lead for us. Needs work.
First place in the SEC after four games- sure beats where we were after the first day of the new year- here's hoping to continued improvement.
