Re-make the team
GM armchair QB.
Whats your plan?
Mine--purge and roll with youth and future.
Trade Faulk, Schenn,
Try to trade Buch and Kyrou
Suter and Bjug--explore trades.
Binnington try to trade.
Id stock up on draft picks again.
or we swap our 2nds for their 1st and a player. Get creative,
When the dust settles--You have Hofer in goal.
Neighbours, Holloway, Snuggerud, Dvorsky, Berggren, Stenberg, Walker, Sundqvist, Toropchenko, Thomas, Fabbri, Joseph(Extend at nice lower rate of pay 2 years--hes had a good year despite getting jerked around.)
For the 13th forward. and another to fill in for Holloway now.
Kaskimaki, Pekarcik, Stancl, and Peterson are your choices. Luff if these guys arent ready. Kaskimaki and Pekarcik would be my choice.
Neighbours Thomas Snuggerud
Stenberg Dvorsky Berggren
Pekarcik/Fabbri Kaskimaki Joseph
Toropchenko Sundqvist Walker
Fabbri/Pekarcik (Holloway)
Next year Carbonneau try's to break in.
Fabbri is a stop gap fill in for this year. I hope hes not a future guy. He doesnt do it for me.
Parayko Broberg
Mailloux Fowler
Tucker Lindstein
Kessel
Jiricek? next year?
Hofer
Zherenko

Re: Re-make the team
Looks good to me. It cant get much worse than it is now, routinely getting blown out and getting 5 shots a period.

Re: Re-make the team
Thomas and Parayko: Best option is to hang on to them both and move them in the off season. Move Thomas to bring in a Parayko replacement and CP for a Thomas replacement. Allows teams to deal from positions of strength vs. swapping position for same position. Also helps knowing where folks sit draft-wise when it comes to who is sending what sweetening the pot to make the deals work. Only way you are really winning a trade before the deadline is if its someone better but injured coming back.
Schenn: Same as above. If you HAVE to move him do it in the offseason so you can name a new C at camp or put it on an incoming player.
Binnington: Move for best package possible, and let the returning goalie be the backup to Hofer.
Faulk and Kyrou - Move for the best package of picks/prospects you get offered. Not a hater of either, but its time to move on for asset management's sake.
Buchnevich – A poster mentioned Kotkaniemi in another thread and this would be the move I might look strongly at. He has a chance to be a good fit for our third line, and at half the price. I would see if Buch and a 2nd brings him and a lower pick or prospect back. Any similar deal to this with Buch going out would make me happy.
Bjugstad and Suter– Move them for whatever you can get. Nothing wrong with them, but looking like we have better options in our kids.
Use the cap space you have in the offseason to sign a Gabriel Landeskog type forward as well as shoring up the D, in particular getting the partner for Mailloux that he truly needs, and I really believe this team can see a major turn around.

Re: Re-make the team
Thomas is the best offensive center we've had since Turgeon. Sure, he's not a top 10/franchise type who can carry this team on his back for months on end, but then Nathan MacKinnon couldn't carry this team... Put some actual talent and grit on his wings and he's a lock for 90 pts - and his defense is at least acceptable. You wont find a batter value. Unless a top 3 pick is coming back, I wouldn't consider moving him.
Parayko - sell. That back won't age well, but he can still command a premium.
Binner - sell. There's still demand for him based on his reputation, but every poor start erodes it a bit. He needs a new challenge, if he even has anything left.
Schenn - he's earned a happy landing. If he wants to stay, I keep him to mentor the kids in a third or fourth line. His call.
Kyrou - bye. Threaten waivers and benchings until he accepts the inevitable. Im done watching him.
Faulk - trade if I can't get what I want for Parayko (including a stop gap veteran RHD).
Buch - I cant imagine demand for him now - maybe keep and see if he cant heat up and build a market for next year.

Re: Re-make the team
If I'm sitting here today thinking about the team I want to ice next year as a GM and project towards getting back to contender in the future, this is probably what I'm thinking:
Holloway- Thomas- ????
Need to find a forechecking, scoring RW and that's your #1 line. Easy right???
Neighbours- Dvorsky-Snuggerud
Really not sure what Dvorsky is (1c,2c, 3c, W)? That being said I'm hopeful he develops into this spot, if not higher, so you're rolling him out there next year. Next year will tell you a lot more about his potential. Neighbours scores and does the dirty work, Snuggerud continues to develop
Stenberg-Suter- ????
If you must Buch fills the RW spot, but you're hoping he's moved for an asset(s) that helps the team down the road. Give another youngster a chance or bring in a vet short term. Roll dice potentially with Carbonneau slotting in here. Suter is solid and Stenberg continues to develop.
Torp-Bjugstad-Joseph
Walker
I'd rather have a spot here for a rookie that projects to 3rd line(maybe 2nd) in the future, but if that doesn't happen not the end of the world. Also rather have a better C here to help facilitate some scoring from this line.
Brogberg-Parayko (should be solid 1st pair)
Fowler-????
Lindstein-Mailloux
Tucker-Jiricek(AHL call up)
Backend has a lot of questions after the 1st pair which should be a good. What's Fowler got left and does he need a vet partner to thrive? Would a 3rd pairing of two young guys be a train wreck again?
Hofer
????
Players moved to help the team get more assets in the pipeline: Schenn, Kyrou, Binnington, Buch.

Re: Re-make the team
Thomas for Misa.
Re: Re-make the team
At this point to be honest I'm probably not doing much unless the offers a very good, selling low is a bad idea. Unless I'm getting a premium for these guys I think we are best severed by letting them help the next generation get there feet under them. Specially on d, we have a lot of young forwards developing and I think that process goes much better with the best d we can give them. If I'm selling I'm looking at Bennington and Schenn.
Unless someone wants to pay a premium for Buch and Kyrou I'm not selling low right now.

Re: Re-make the team
Lots to agree with in this thread. I do agree to not sell low, but there's no guarantee any of these players rebound (together) to their personal highs. I'm unwilling to time the market on some players.
First: Trade Faulk ASAP - sell high and get at least a 1st/equivalent for his 1+ year contract
Extend Berggren
I'd be looking to move Kyrou in any deal that isn't a total fleecing. Credit to him for rounding out his game over several years in his mid-20s, but it took HoF night with Oshie, Jackman, and his new GM Steen talking about working/playing hard and making it hard for your opponent for him to play like that.
Schenn is here for life unless he wants to leave. He is our Steen - aging vet willing to move down the depth chart. Someone who WANTS to play hard. Lives to play hard. I would move him in a haul (same for anyone), but don't see it happening.
I don't really care about Joseph, Suter, or Bjug. They are all fine. Joseph brings the mojo and is a great 4th liner to have around. Suter and Bjug are filler, but I like them well enough where I'm not forcing a move. If someone asks this TDL, then I sell them.
I would move Buch if there's a taker he would go to offering a reasonable deal. Unlikely.
Extend Sunny, even as a depth forward. Character guy who lays it all out on the line and can play in any situation. Probably just doesn't need to be an everyday starter for 82+ games. The guy blocks every shot, takes punishment in dirty areas, still dishes it out, and still scores occasionally with great PK and full game - he's probably playing hurt the vast majority of the time, but I don't think people consider that when they say he's too slow (same with Schenn, even though they are still involved in and keeping up with the play).
Finally, I would try to get some of the old band back together. I say it a lot on here half-(donkey) jokingly, but seriously... Sign Schwartz and Perron this offseason. Or go get them now for cheap and try to offload someone in the process (Kyrou, Joseph, etc).
Army's last move...acquiring Perron...AGAIN!

Re: Re-make the team
Everybody is in play. Faulk Schenn Binner are your focus, they have modified deals. Cap space is your friend, you can turn around a team quickly if you have this. Does thin team play better without Thomas? Their transition was better off the rush Tuesday. No value for Buch, you’ll have to hope he comes out his offensive funk. Army is gonna have a hard time getting roster players out of this bunch.
Re: Re-make the team
Would Kyrou + for Owen Power make sense? Buffalo is looking for more speed and scoring apparently and Power is surplus at this point with Dahlin and Byram. Not sure what the + would be but Kyrou, mid level prospect and a pick?? Don't flame as i'm just wondering out loud.
Re: Re-make the team
Why does everyone want to trade offense for defense when we’re last in the league in scoring? Not to mention you’re giving up way too much there.bixblues wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 08:41 am Would Kyrou + for Owen Power make sense? Re: Re-make the team
The guys you want to move you don’t have to wait for personal highs but at least get back to their norm. Moving them now is dumb.zamadoo wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 05:34 am Lots to agree with in this thread. Agree on Faulk, his value will never be higher.
As far as Sunny, and the others, no way. The idea is to get younger with more skill not bring in creaky old vets.

Re: Re-make the team
I would start by giving Pavel Buchnevich an ultimatum, start delivering to the value of your contract or you will be sent to the ECHL and your new position will be on the Everblades.
I would trade Faulk and Schenn for FUTURES. No hockey trades, just Grade A prospects and first round picks.
I would also get off the Kyrou hatred, I really don't think Kyrou has been the problem this year. Has he played to the value of his contract? No, not really but he has also not been given a stable role this needs to change immediately.
If Binnington rejuvenates his career again in the Olympics, when he comes back he is gone. If he doesn't then he plays out his contract here as the second goaltender, its Hofer's net until he loses it.
I would try to trade Suter, Sunny, Joseph, Torpochenko, and Parayko for futures and prospects. As far as Holloway is concerned, I try to resign him to a prove it contract short term (two years and four million). I incentivize it and I make it clear, if he can return to form there is a lot more money waiting for him here. We want him but we want the him preinjury of last year.
Fabbri isn't a concern for me he is just a stop gap, same with Beggren I don't see him as anything other then a guy you can plug in at this time. If we can get anything for either send them packing.
I wouldn't play either Jiricek or Lindstein in the NHL next year. I don't want to rush defensive prospects at all. I don't want either of them seriously injured, go slow on these guys until your confident they are ready to go pro. With Mailloux, I would hire Al MacInnis, Chris Pronger, or another HoF d-man to be his personal coach. They will review tape of his play and teach him the game all of next year. If there isn't significant improvement then he will be resigned only until we have someone better then he will be sent to the AHL again.
So that would be my plan, thanks for the topic it was fun.
Re: Re-make the team
I guess my thought is that you have more scoring coming (Snuggerud, Carboneau, Stenberg ......) D is the real problem and once it's addressed I think the team will settle down. I'm not sure the proposal is an overpayment as well considering Kyrou makes roughly what Power does.Bacchk29 wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 08:53 amWhy does everyone want to trade offense for defense when we’re last in the league in scoring? Re: Re-make the team
More along the lines of the pick and prospect for Power we’re not in the business of giving those up unless you’re getting the caliber of Quinn Hughes or someone like that. Mandatory’s ideas are closer to what needs to happen. The forward group just isn’t very good overall Blues have been playing a line over where they really should be for at least 3 years now.bixblues wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 09:23 amI guess my thought is that you have more scoring coming (Snuggerud, Carboneau, Stenberg ......) Re: Re-make the team
Many good points in this thread, glad I'm not the GM.
This might be showing my old school mentality but I'd want to know what Blues didn't attend the HOF ceremony honouring Chase, Jackman, Steen and Arbour. If there wasn't a good reason for them not to be there then I'd probably be shipping them out. Couldn't think of 4 people that represented the Blues more than those 4.
