FBS coaches vote to expand redshirt rules

Post by jcgmoi »

College football coaches voted unanimously to alter eligibility rules in hopes of expanding redshirt seasons from four games to nine at this week's annual AFCA convention . . .

<snip>

The unanimous directive from coaches is simply a recommendation. Now, it must go before Division I committees
Maybe not this year but I expect the rule change will pass, adding to the trend of getting players more college time and thus more paychecks. This year saw Pavia winning a suit for another year by ignoring his JC experience. Chambliss lost his appeal for an additional year and he's suing too. It wouldn't surprise if he wins as well.

I see a future where FBS rosters are filled with 24-25 yo players, kind of like BYU teams of old. Changing redshirt rules is just another step. For that matter, why stop at one redshirt season when you can have two or three?
