How do we move on from Buchnevich and Kyrou?
Is there anyone here that would take on the contracts of Buchnevich and Kyrou? I doubt it. There is no way that another GM is going to take on that "risk". Their long-term no-trade contracts are deal breakers.
So now what? Will they prevent any re-tool of the team for another 5 years? Will the Blues have to eat their salaries?
Thoughts?

Doug has always said there is a way to get around the no trade clause so we will see

Many would trade for Kyrou. Buch right now I'm not to sure the return would be worth moving him.

Agree. Return for JK might underwhelm, but he is tradeable. Buch has little to no value IMHO. He would need to be moved via the Goodrow/Leddy route where a team wants him, he rejects, we waive him, they claim him. Our return, would simply be cap space. That route is a key difference that separates a NTC from a NMC.Bluesfan1978 wrote: ↑13 Jan 2026 11:03 am Many would trade for Kyrou. Add some sweetener on both.
Buch for a 1st rounder. We give a second rounder and retain some salary or take on an expiring contract this year or next. or Buch for 2nd and we take on a bad contract.
Maybe on Kyrou we do a 3rd and we get the first and take back something expiring relatively soon.

Kyrou you could move without adding anything. What the return is, I couldn't guess at this point.
For Buch he has value just not at a $8m cap hit. If we retained some salary, but don't you have to retain for the length of the contract? So if we eat $2m, we're eating it for the entirety of the term left.

Oh what a difference...
For their best players, Vancouver Fans SEE a Return of
- 3 prospects taken in Round 1, and get an additional 2026 Round 1 pick
Blues Fans SEE
- More ugly times. Our benefit is only subtraction.

I think Buchnevich will require us taking back a miserable contract in return (ie. Frederic from Oilers) which has term as well

I cannot take on their contracts at this time.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑13 Jan 2026 10:58 am Is there anyone here that would take on the contracts of Buchnevich and Kyrou? I doubt it. Frederic 1st plus for Buch 2nd I’m in. We’d probably have to take on another contract that might be a UFA at the end of the year.

Re: How do we move on from Buchnevich and Kyrou?
I think few realize that the best news about Buch is that our entire team is trash and having a bad year which in essence could explain his poor play.
O’reilly was traded with no problem and got a first. So was tank and our team was trash but they received comp based on their known skill but on a bad team.
I think we are overly critical and emotional and not thinking clearly.
I think we get a solid return for both.

Sure Kyrou is certainly tradable as long as he is willing to waive somewhere that wants him. Thus i feel like a Kyrou trade is unlikely. My guess is Army is going to want a decent return as well making this even more complicated

Re: How do we move on from Buchnevich and Kyrou?
I agree that there would be plenty of interest in Kyrou, despite his performance and his contract. Buch? I honestly can't imagine another GM taking that contract (unless, as mentioned, we take an equally bad contract back).
If the Blues want to move Kyrou, the "rejuvenation" of Trevor Zegras is the best thing that could have happened. Zegras has always been a pond hockey player, a super soft player that was only worried about the highlight reel. There were a lot of similarities between Kyrou and Zegras. After getting traded to the Flyers, Zegras has become very effective and dynamic, a better version of what he was in his first year or so in Anaheim. I guarantee you that there will be more than a few GM's that will be convinced that the same thing can happen with Kyrou......and I have no doubt Kyrou will be a better player after getting traded. The Ducks got a marginal player and two draft picks for Zegras (a 2nd and a 4th). Hopefully the Blues could do better than that.

Re: How do we move on from Buchnevich and Kyrou?
I'm glad to hear that some are hopeful about the outcome.
I guess the aspect of this that gives me the most angst is the NTC in the eyes of the next GM. GMs will take a chance on a guy if the experiment would end in 1-2 years. If the player goes south, it would be at most a 2-year black eye. In the case of these 2 players, if the players don't work out, it is a 5-year stick in the eye.
Has anyone ever seen a player get dumped with 5 years and NTC, let alone 2 players at the same time?
