Why would anyone want Kyrou?
What did I miss. Seems ridiculous far fetched.

BTW--Rantanen is a better bigger player than Robertson.
Is he though? Robertson is 3 years younger and has been just as productive in his career. I'd love to have him on the Blues, he's a Bonafide star. Seems like exactly what this team lacks. I still don't really understand why the Stars went after Rantanen unless it was just to try and win it all before they lose Robertson. Who knows?

You must be looking at different numbers than me. Rant has better numbers.

We’re not gonna be involved in something like this.

Robertson is in his prime right now I don’t think there’s anything that leads me to believe that he’s going to be better If Anything he’s gonna be worse. M R is a bigger guy as well much sturdyer frame.

Money is a hell of a convincer
I guess the real question is would you take Robo for $12 or $12.5 for 8 years vs. JK for $8.125 for another 5 (I think)? That's a really good question. I think I would.
You'd have both. That pesky NTC.

Well this obviously assumes Kyrou would waive. Why would he refuse to go to Dallas? Better team, no taxes and his brother is there right?

Actually, his brother was traded from Dallas to the Flyers. However, I agree that he'd be foolish not to want to go to Dallas in a trade.

Gotcha thanks. Didn’t know that.

But yea while an in division trade like this is very unlikely, the one thing I would not see being an issue is Kyrou’s NTC

Normally yeah the NTC is an issue, but you have to figure there are about 5-6 teams that he'd have no problems waiving for, and a team in a no tax state is a big draw. All of a sudden he goes from clearing 7 million to 7.5 million which gives him a raise without him having to renegotiate his contract.

There of course is no guarantee that he would, but I haven't really heard of anyone having Dallas on their No trade list because of that exact reason.

I would pass on Robertson. I like him, but we've seen too much of finishers without playmakers already.

Absolutely love the idea but he’s gotta want to sign long term here. We’re not competitive enough.

What? Robert Thomas is a better center than anything he has in Dallas. That comment makes no sense at all.

Ok. I'll listen for trade rumors for Wyatt Johnston and Roope Hintz.

That's partially why I keep saying we would probably get fleeced in this scenario. Dallas would pull off the cap maneuver to put themselves in a better spot for the next 2-3 years, and we would struggle to get the deal done. But the Blues are one of the spots where that kind of deal is capable of getting done. I'd be curious how many teams in the league have the available cap, if everything stood pat with their rosters? Next year we will be at 13m then 56 then 68. The Blues are going to have some real wiggle room moving forward as they keep elevating these young guys

Why would we struggle to get a deal done? The organization itself is very highly thought of in the hockey world. He's played here numerous times so he knows we are passionate. Very few, if any, players speak poorly of the Blues front office. The only reason it wouldn't get done is because he wants the NMC, a signing bonus, and the 12 million.

Bringing on a new super-expensive "Buchnevich" is a GREAT RISK when you don't know why the old Buchnevich is failing.

I agree with all of your points. We just haven't seen the big splash signing in a LONG time from FA or trade. We have done a really good job at signing the next tier of players. And I agree, people love wearing the note, they love the org, the city is one of the best hockey fan bases in the league, definitely top half in terms of supporting the players and passion. I just am one of those guys that is wired to see something done before I assume that we can pull something off. This is not a comparison, but the two biggest factors in signings these days seems to be whether or not the tax laws are prohibitive for the athlete, and the weather. At least for hockey players this is what it seems. The next would be market but I don't think that factors in as much as maybe it once did. Getting paid is getting paid.
