Jiricek OHL: 28GP 13 20 33 +23 continues checking off boxes, we said last year Jiricek needs to be one of the top dmen in the OHL, needs to be at least PPG and here he is

Only 28 GP, 6 less than Reid, two less than Aitcheson

When guys have big WJCs they often return to their junior teams and have monster performances just after. Stancl's best game was his first after the WJC last year against Prince George, 3+2.

It's about Jiricek's defense at this point, how quickly can it be consistent. He is a high event player.

Those that actually follow hockey and hope the Blues do well, listened to the scouting reports on Jiricek. He was a slam dunk top 10 pick if he was healthy. He is proving now he was potentially a top 5 pick. Between him and Carbs in back to back drafts, the Blues scouting department might have had the biggest steals in terms of pick location in all of the NHL. It's pretty impressive that happened in back to backs. Not to mention during Dvo's draft, he was regarded as a top 5 pick in any other draft but that one. Stenberg is showing he is a player and Lindstein continually impresses the coaching staff during camps.

After another summer of training Ive changed my opinion that when October roles around Jiricek may be a viable option to replace Faulk right away esp with a veteran LHD partner

Unless they sign another veteran RHD, Jiricek will be on the opening night roster. We don’t have anybody better at this point.

You're probably right about this, I just hope people aren't expecting Petro, who was good enough in the NHL in his D+3 that they felt comfortable trading Johnson. It will be good if he can take Brantford to the Memorial Cup

I’m so confused. I thought only top 5 draft picks mattered? Maybe I’m missing something…

Im guessing he starts on the 3rd pair and they see how it goes but I can’t see him being any worse than our bottom 3 D right now.

Yep they felt good enough about Petro in year 3 that they traded Johnson to Colorado. But they also got back a high end defenseman in Shattenkirk to take EJ's spot. So they weren't necessarily putting ALL their eggs in one basket with just Petro on no other RHD. Shatty was equally good if not slightly better on the PP that Petro

Pretty sure he went straight to locker room, packed his stuff and got a job selling insurance.

Can he play defense? Can he win puck battles? Can he clear the crease? Can he play NHL-style heavy playoff hockey? Asking for a friend.

Nobody clears the crease anymore. Kids aren’t even taught to do it
