Rushes that don’t amount to anything substantial and good defensive work don’t get guys paid.

They put themselves in a position to overpay him now, because they overpaid that initial contract.

When he’s reached his ceiling, and he’s close to that now, they’ll deserve every bit of the criticism they’re going to receive for that contract.

Now, I could be wrong, and I hope to be. But I haven’t been wrong so far.

I predicted Buch would flame out based on his history, I predicted what we’d get out of Neighbors. I predicted the Kyrou situation and I predicted this roster bottoming out do to poor character and construction.

I MIGHT have whiffed on the Jiricek thing, but I’ve been correct on a lot. It’s taken a while to come to fruition; but that’s just my ability to predict and evaluate coming to the forefront. I told you all, I know more about hockey than anyone on this forum. It only took a 9 month suspension for you all to see the light.
Speaking of Jiricek, when he scored that between the legs goal the other day you were complaining about it because a defender should be playing defense. Broberg’s main attribute this season has been his defensive play and he’s been good at it. Now you’re complaining that he doesn’t provide enough offense. It seems like you just have a problem with everything that happens.

For my 2 cents, this contract is good. Broberg has shown that he’s a top pair matchup defenseman like Parayko and that’s about what a guy like that should be getting paid. He’s not a true #1 all situations defender but he’s not being paid like one either.

Don’t love the front end of the deal. On pace for 25 pts this year. Apparently it’s the going rate for D these days. If his offense gets better it’s a great deal. I think it will when the Blues start playing a more up tempo game.

His numbers will get better…especially if they force him on the pp.

But he has a very weak shot, and not the best hands/execution. He reminds me a lot of Parayko offensively. He’ll never be a dynamo … not in the cards for him.

Good catch. I’d say you’re not off-base.

It was a beautiful goal. But yes, I typically want my defensemen to stay on the back line unless there’s a numbers situation in the slot area. Offense can come from assists, making the correct pass, or just firing the puck on the net.

I don’t mind a defenseman providing offensive punch as long as it’s done responsibly.

Montgomery was a total goofball for saying that publicly and putting a label on him like that. Just hurt him.

Not really. You and a couple of other freaks and weirdos have keyed in on it for over a month but the rest of us normals moved on with our lives pretty quickly.

Honestly, it doesn’t matter if it’s Broberg, Thomas, or Gretzky — when a coach says a player has ‘man strength,’ what the hell does that even mean? What is man strength supposed to be?

And then to top it off, saying Broberg is the kind of guy who can ‘take over a game’? Monty actually said that. Has he completely lost his mind like he did in Boston? Because tossing out buzzwords instead of explaining actual on-ice impact doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.

Imagine being a teammate and hearing Montgomery saying that nonsense.

As for the opposition … that wide open door for abuse/chirping is yummy.

Maybe Binnington won’t have to protect him no more

He is JayBo 2.0.

Not that that is a bad thing but that's what he needs to be.

Offensively he'll be limited because his shot as about equivalent to JabBo but that doesn't mean he can't be a productive offensive contributor.

With him a Payrayko back there they in in desperate need a defenseman that can be a little more dangerous than they are offensively.

Jaybo had more skill…better skater as well. Jaybo was also extremely tough…from a pain/injury tolerance perspective. That’s a major reason why everyone respected him so much.

It’s a good comparison though. Size, speed, reach with hands/vision that can’t keep up. Weak shots.

Parayko is similar as well. He has a hard shot, but its not really effective.
