Truthfully, Preseason How good did you think the Blues were?
I see a lot of posts here out of frustration it appears. I typically take a step back and try to evaluate what is going on and take a wider view of everything when I can. This probably stems from my time as a die hard Lambs fan. I got about 2 good years out of 13 or so growing up where it was genuinely fun during my youth to post college to be a Lambs fan. The frustration would boil over around week 6-8 and apathy would set in pretty fast. But, since then I have found a way to just be a fan of what is going on, as long as management isn't being purposefully obtuse like Lambs management was where they purposefully were trying to poison the water of the fan base.
So I ask, where does this frustration come from for you Blues fans? Did you think the Blues were a top 5 team in the west? Did you think they were a 6-8 team and a guaranteed lock for the playoffs? Did you think they were similar to last year and fell in the 7-11 category and they were borderline playoffs? Or did you think they were a bottom 5 team in the west and vying for a lottery pick?
If you thought they were a lotter pick team, you should be happy
If you thought they were a 7-11 team, that's what they are, borderline playoff team on the outside looking in. you should be happy.
If you thought they were a 6-8 team, I can see your frustration. Why did you think this was the case and why would they be a lock?
If you thought they were a top 5 team in the West, Why did you think that? The leadership told you they weren't. Heck the players had interviews saying they weren't.
This is a genuine question. I thought they were a 6-8 team that could also just miss the playoffs as the 9. I'm not really frustrated because the injuries have gotten in the way of that frustration. If it was a fully healthy team for this whole time, I'd probably be a little more disgruntled. But we have had 4 of our top 6 out consistently for over 2 months now. Multiple guys have seen 5-6 week injuries. Hard to overcome that when you are a middling team to start.

Approximately a 99-100 point team. Big question is, other than injuries what is driving the veteran player slumps? Will they rebound?
Re: Truthfully, Preseason How good did you think the Blues were?
Through to the beginning of December the Blues had the 2nd fewest man games lost in the entire NHL.
Look at jersey, Vegas Vancouver on and on. Talking about injuries for the Blues is ridiculous in comparison

I’ll admit, I wholeheartedly thought we were a playoff team. Plain and simple.

Agree 100 percent with Backesdraft and DawgDad.
IMO, team was better on paper with addition of Pius Suter. Thought Bugstad/Faksa was a wash. Maybe not?
In hindsight, I probably undervalued Ryan Suter.

I had then at 100 points.
Once said....Pretty hard to get out of that.

I don’t remember, but I think I had them as a borderline WC team. I’m too old and lazy, but there was a thread/topic about this where a bunch of us put in our guesses. IIRC, it actually had us rank the West, because I’m pretty certain I had Minny doing well and Colorado falling off. I sure was wrong about the Avs. Anyway, it’s out there somewhere if a good prospector wants to go find it.
Re: Truthfully, Preseason How good did you think the Blues were?
I had them safely in the playoffs.
I thought they had a good mix of veterans and youth.
I was way off base and completely wrong.

Honestly, I really couldn’t care less what their record is or what I thought it would be at preseason.
My concern at the start of the season, all last season and today is that this group of players (most who have been NHLers for well over 3 years) are continually doing all of the small things wrong, demonstrating zero compete or urgency, and regressing year over year.
It’s a team with glaring holes that aren’t getting resolved.
If this were a developing young team, they’d be inconsistent, sure. They’d have skill and mental lapses, but it’s the attitude, the lack of growth in detail and the appalling lack of compete from guys who are supposed to be the core leaders moving this team forward.
This, as it is and has been, is not a team in growth mode. It’s an AT THE CAP team regressing and checking out.

Re: Truthfully, Preseason How good did you think the Blues were?
I posted often prior to this season that the chances that the mediocre Blues team in October 1 2025 would look a lot like the Blues of February 1 2025 was very likely.
I posted that the problem of our best players being outplayed and outscored by the best players on the other team would likely return. I noted that that problem showed itself in the playoffs already.
I posted often that the Blues win-streak was not to be trusted while it was happening. It was a false hope because the regular season was essentially over for most teams. Montgomery echoed that that is what happened.
I posted that the "culture problem" that bubbled up in Feb 2025 would very likely return this season.
I posted that we lack elite talent, and there will be no easy getting around that limitation.
I was pretty close to correct I think.

It is hell to be so correct. I say "correct" not "smart" because my superpower is that I am plugged into common sense.gpe13579 wrote: ↑09 Jan 2026 19:02 pmThis is as insufferable as it gets.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑09 Jan 2026 18:57 pm I posted often prior to this season that the chances that the mediocre Blues team in October 1 2025 would look a lot like the Blues of February 1 2025 was very likely.

Take a gander at all that I said above. Do you see anything that doesn't reek of common sense?

I thought they had a chance to see the second round.

Nah. You always have all the right answers so really no point. I don't disagree with everything you say but even IF everything you said were correct, the delivery is still insufferable.
