And yes, if Thomas were your 2C that of course would be much better.
But, it's not all gloom and doom. There are number of younger players showing varying levels of potential. None appear to be star level though.
The fix is easy.
Trade Binnington, Faulk and Schenn regardless of return. The return is the cap space. If possible you move on from Buch (unlikely possible) and Kyrou (much more possible). Again, the return doesn't matter. The cap does.
Playing all the youngsters with a few veterans that are left should get them a top five pick.
Make that top 5 and get it RIGHT>/
Use all that cap space and use it RIGHT.
You don't get better by trading Thomas.
You sell the fanbase on the excitement of all the cap space free agent money you have along with the excitement of a top 5 pick and the offseason would be compelling and exciting for the fan base.
Do all of that and them they would come into next season with a younger, athletic, vibrant team.
The obvious key is they have to hit on the pick and HAVE to spend the free agent cap space money wisely.

Probably not for anything anyone is willing to give up. Thomas/Dvorsky down the middle is something we have that looks pretty good to me going forward.
Trading Thomas is very "kneejerk" IMO, figure out the root of the problem and fix that. Although I suspect the people in charge of figuring out the problem are the problem unfortunately.

I’d listen to offers on anyone at this point, Thomas included. It would have to be a haul that included a clear replacement to agree to move him, though, because we just don’t have anyone else. We can’t exactly hand the 1C job to Dvorsky and expect him to continue developing properly.

Re: Would you trade Thomas?
Hopefully its Snuggerud but first and foremost Thomas needs a bonafide NHL shooter. Buch and Kyrou are passer first type guys apparently when they are all three together you can start a drinking game with how many times they pass up shots to pass to each other. Neighbours is more of a slot banger, not a sniper. I like Dvo on the PP I like Stenberg as a complement to Dvos line. Maybe its Justin Carbonneau that can light it up with Thomas but that may or may not be next season

If im trading Thomas im looking at a hockey trade.
Heck Thomas and Kyrou for Pettersson and DeBrusk with some other pieces would certainly shake up the core.

Re: Would you trade Thomas?
Yes but as others have pointed out we would need a center back. Maybe somebody else has an underperforming center to trade but then do you want him? And then you can't trade Schenn unless you want to try Buch at center again. Surely not.

Re: Would you trade Thomas?
I still say, of all the vets, RT and Pary are guys you should absolutely try to hang onto. Yes, both guys have underperformed this year but it’s clearly an outlier for them. If the Blues want to avoid a total rebuild then these are the 2 guys you should build around…throw Hofer in there too but there is virtually zero chance the blues would consider moving him.
Yes, anyone can be traded, but as others have said, if RT goes you have to be getting equal value back. It can’t be for picks and prospects.

Re: Would you trade Thomas?
Yeah, trading Thomas is not in the SOP (Standard Op Procedure) for the Blues. Their M.O. seems to have depth (perhaps not this year), and losing Thomas would create a huge gap at C. The ideal would be to have two 2Cs per the Blues M.O. and not trade just to trade. One never knows, and I agree the Blues would have to get a C in return. Too much risk.LGB73 wrote: ↑09 Jan 2026 12:53 pm We're already weak down the middle without much help coming with top 6 potential. It's essentially Thomas and Dvorsky that need to carry the load at C unless we're getting something back better than Thomas at C. That wouldn't make much sense for the other team to do though would it.

Please. These may be challenging times but they are FAR from "very bad". Losing a franchise is "very bad". Missing an entire draft is "very bad".theograce wrote: ↑09 Jan 2026 12:28 pmI believe every one is available and this, in part, has led to a toxic environment. The video hosts say "No Way", but they also say that he will not bring a haul likely.
My opinion...
If you suspect that your 1C would not bring a lot in return, that is a 1C that is not good enough.
Army has already pointed out to us that our best players are outshined by other team's top players too often. That trend continues this year.
Thomas is a 2C, and he needs to move to another team to play that role. That would be the most respectful thing to do for everyone.
This video is a joke. Im sure you have a paragraph copy and pasted waiting.
The Blues aren’t getting a ton of interest, which prolongs the inevitable change that will be coming. These are very bad times.

Re: Would you trade Thomas?
Hah OP would listen to those guys. I gave them a chance at the end of last year because it was nice that someone was trying to cover the Blues. They don't have a single bit of insight, and they don't actually talk about anything other than reddit forum stuff and twitter posts. They don't even know exactly what happens in the topics they are talking about at times because they are just doing click bait videos everyday. I wonder what their plan is, they still pop up in my feed and it looks like their view count hasn't gone up. Is there some monetization of just doing a million videos and getting under 1k views but you can count them all up? I was always under the impression you needed individual videos to go viral to get monetized.Younghopp1991 wrote: ↑09 Jan 2026 12:19 pmThose guys are trash. They are the definition of clickbait. Re: Would you trade Thomas?
I’ve been as frustrated with this team as many others, but there is certainly some players that have shown the propensity to be able to elevate. We just haven’t seen it consistently. We lack that, along with some game changers and some more grit. I’d like to keep Thomas, but IMHO, here is how I assess some of the talent we have and where we still have holes if he stays. Again, one fans opinion, so if you don’t agree, so be it. And obviously, this is looking a couple years outTruBlueFan_1970 wrote: ↑09 Jan 2026 12:58 pm I would trade anyone on this team, any year, if the return is appropriate. I like Thomas and would want to keep him, but we desperately need a game changer or two on this team. If he were to bring that in return, he’s fair game.

Need to go in order to accumulate as many assets as possible to close some of the gaps above: Binner, Bjug, Sunny, Buch, Kyrou, Fowler, Faulk, any 4th line fodder

Re: Would you trade Thomas?
If some team wants Thomas they need to step up and pay the freight. Otherwise, they can inquire about other players.
If the Blues trade Thomas, and I'm NOT saying they should, they need to get a young sure-thing player or prospect who projects to be better. Otherwise, no sale.

He's part of the change that is happening in Buffalo. I like his game. I really hope Buffalo can retain him, they are starting to become a fun team to watch. (unless the Blues get him of course)
