Billikens basketball…
This team looks like it can play. Their SOS has been soft but they have been looking good in those games. I watched their St. Joe game and they play an aggressive brand of basketball and seem to have a balanced game (solid big man, good guard play, length on the wings, etc…).
Does anyone know if Kellen Thames is related to Kelly Thames?

He is Kelly’s son. 6’7” athletic and brings a lot of energy to the game when he’s in. He’s a tough matchup for the opposition. Athletic enough to guard the opposing PG and tough to guard by most opposing guards.

The 1993 Bragging Rights game and the kU Peeler game were the best game I have ever seen live.Armchair QB wrote: ↑07 Jan 2026 20:44 pmKelly Thames. Remember that 93-94 season? That was one of year I thought we could win it all. (1982-83, 1988-89, 1993-94, 2011-12 were the best teams in Mizzou history IMO).
Crudup, Booker, Thames, Oliney, Frazier (Lamont not Ricky), Grimm, Sutherland, etc…

If not for an extreme fluke play the Bills would be undefeated.
That was their first win ever at VCU.

Before he blew out his knee he was getting Scottie Pippen comparisons. He was still a sound player. He just never got the explosiveness back. If he gets hurt in 2026 instead of the mid 1990s he still probably has an NBA career.K-Vegas wrote: ↑08 Jan 2026 08:58 amBefore he blew out his knee he was getting Scottie Pippen comparisons. I also appreciated that I saw Thames and Julian Winfield together at Ellis Library quite a bit working on class work.

Kelly has been the coach at suburban Pattonville HS for more than a decade now.Whatashame wrote: ↑07 Jan 2026 20:49 pm He is Kelly’s son. 6’7” athletic and brings a lot of energy to the game when he’s in. Kellen played for his dad, set the school scoring record and was two-time All State.

Billikens are making waves in their conference and will be tourney team and could make some noise there. Have depth and some guys who can fill it up and rebound.
going to start taping and watching their games and have invite to go to a couple of games.
You can root for more than one local team, it's not a crime. LOL

I'm a one team guy. I've lived in STL for over 40 years & as a Mizzou grad have always been vexed at the media attention for the Billikens over Mizzou here. For example, the SLU/VCU game got first billing over Mizzou's win over KY last night on all the TV sports segments. Granted SLU is here & Mizzou is 125 miles away, but SLU is a private school that just happens to have the same name as the city & Mizzou is the state university.
SLU is good this year & could win the A-10. I'll give them their props, but to the STL press they're always just about to win the NC. Winning at VCU isn't exactly like winning at Rupp!
I would like to see a regular scheduled game with SLU (I'd get to catch a Mizzou game without the 250-mile drive). Maybe they'll meet if both make The Dance, but there's a long way to go (for both teams) although SLU's path through the A-10 is a bit easier. Good luck to both.

Well if you guys knew who the head coach was when he got hired, you'd probably know they would be good. The head coach "Josh Schertz" is a name to remember! He has won every step of the way and he wont be at SLU much longer is my guess.....some deep pocket power 4 school will come alone and snatch him up. If Mizzou fired Gates, Id love to see them go after Schertz! When SlU hired him, several NBA coached bragged about how St. Louis got one of the best minds in basketball today in coach Schertz...and rightly so! He's good.rezero wrote: ↑07 Jan 2026 20:40 pm This team looks like it can play. Their SOS has been soft but they have been looking good in those games. I pull for both schools with zero problems doing it. The Bills have a much bigger hill to climb with recognition and recruiting and what little shine they get over Missouri on local coverage, if any at all, is fine with me as well.MizzouMarv wrote: ↑08 Jan 2026 14:18 pm I'm a one team guy. Schertz has done a great job and there is some good basketball back in my city i wish them the best.

The A-10 is a joke. The Billikens have played one P4 team, Stanford, and lost.MizzouMarv wrote: ↑08 Jan 2026 14:18 pm I'm a one team guy. Following SLU was a lot more fun when Spoon was coach and they were in the old Metro Conference with Marquette, Memphis and Cincinnati, etc. Very competitive conference. I don't dislike SLU now. I just don't care.
MIZ!
