Well, we will now see if Dave Filoni can dig them out of a large hole.

Filoni has been responsible for much of the non-Andor, extremely mediocre Disney series. While he did some great work on the cartoons (Clone Wars, Rebels) from 10-20 years ago, his more recent (live action) stuff has been pretty forgettable, excepting only The Mandalorian.

IOW I don't think he's gonna be the guy that can make a bold creative decision to shift the property into a more interesting direction going forward. Kinda needs an outsider for that, much like Gilroy with respect to Andor.

I would tend to agree, though IMO anyone who isn't afraid to make movies is an improvement on KK.

It's interesting to look back on this franchise. 20 years ago, I rolled my eyes at the prequels and thought: "How hard can it be to make a decent Star Wars movie?"

But apparently, it's really, really hard. And I think that attitude--'oh, this is easy, don't overthink it'--has been the toxin that poisoned the KK era.

I'm actually kinda glad KK has been afraid to make movies, since she only had like a 20% hit rate on them. Certainly none of the ones that are apparently in the pipeline right now seem too exciting (here's hoping that Filoni's first decision is to axe the allegedly-in-development Rey continuation movie).
