Joel Hofer is ranked 5th in the NHL
In save % since December 1st (minus goalies that have only played a few games) with a beautiful .922%
————————————————————————————
On the flip side, Binner has had a .851% since 12/1.
Jordan Binnington has the 5th worst save % since the start of the season. He’s ranked even lower since December 1st.
To make things worse, every single goalie in the top 10 in the worst save % list is in the 14-17 range for number of games played. Only Markstrom from NJ comes close to Binnington’s 26 starts at 22!!!!!!!!!!!!
To gift Binnington at least 5 non back to back starts since December 1st is one of the most incomprehensible decisions I’ve seen from a Blues coach regarding picking your starters in my life.
This all comes at a time when the Blues season is on the line. They NEED wins now, not to have their momentum and confidence ruined. Montgomery deserves to be fired over this alone (of course he won’t).

I said that this team will go nowhere until they establish who their starter is and was laughed at. If Montgomery is playing Binnington to get him in shape for the Olympics then he needs to walk the plank.

High probability he won’t even play.BalotelliMassive wrote: ↑08 Jan 2026 13:42 pm I said that this team will go nowhere until they establish who their starter is and was laughed at. If Montgomery is playing Binnington to get him in shape for the Olympics then he needs to walk the plank.

The 2 goalie system (1A/1B) can work if both goalies are playing good. Boston set the all time regular season record just a few years ago with Swayman/Ullmark being close to 50/50 in starts.BalotelliMassive wrote: ↑08 Jan 2026 13:42 pm I said that this team will go nowhere until they establish who their starter is and was laughed at. With the Blues it should be an absolute no brained to give the net to Hofer for every single game that is not a back to back since December 1st (when the wheels have really started to come off for Binner). The Blues have played at least 4 back to backs since then (that’s crazy by the way), so Binny would still get 4 starts.
I can’t see how any fan can defend Bennington at this point and not be extremely (upset) at Monty and most likely Army for letting Canada/Olympics influence the Blues. There is obviously a % that are blindly loyal to #50 because of what he did for the organization. I love the guy and want him to succeed as much as anyone but I see the reality when he’s on one of his long incredibly bad playing stretches.

I don't see this conspiracy thing with the Olympics. That team has options.stlblue06 wrote: ↑08 Jan 2026 15:20 pmThe 2 goalie system (1A/1B) can work if both goalies are playing good. He just came off a shut out, there's that. The Blues know what he's capable of and they just want him to find it. It makes no sense to literally believe one thing and do another for some upcoming event like it can just change for the sake of doing it.
I do believe their strategy will now change towards bench time for him and see if anything can come of it. Their late reaction on this is fair game but imo it has zero to do with the olympics.

Re: Joel Hofer is ranked 5th in the NHL
the trolls will be trolls. it was clear they were trending towards Hofer getting starts until his game goes to shiz. He got 3 starts in a row including a start after a not so great outing. That's a sign saying he has shown to be the 1 for now. Binner got lit up by the Avs but also had a massive shutout outing. He got rewarded with the next game but it's clear that was more an anomaly than a comeback game.dhsux wrote: ↑08 Jan 2026 15:47 pmI don't see this conspiracy thing with the Olympics. I'll give binner just a little bit of grace. Those shots from the outside are somewhat indefensible with the screens the team is having in front of him. Hofer makes those saves more often because he's just a bigger guy. It's that simple. So if that's happening when both players are playing, it's no question why Hofer is having more success. But I can't imagine that's all there is to it. Hofer is just flat out outplaying him. The eye test doesn't look as bad as that Husso/Binner season tho. That season every easy goal was squeaking thru on Binner and Husso just made the disciplined moves.

To clarify im not convinced it’s all about team Canada. Most likely a combination of Monty being way too loyal to the vet over the younger goalie combined with wanting Binner to start for Canada so he/the team possibly get another confidence bump like last season.
The SO thing is complete [nonsense]. Hofer got a SO vs Utah but they gave Binnington the start on 12/1 because of his 3G .850% win his previous game. That 12/1 game against the Ducks, I’m sure most remember the 2 embarrassing goals let up on the first 4-5 shots. Following by a quick pull and hissy fit thrown by Binnington in front of everyone to see. Hofer stood in his fricken head the rest of that game but the Blues could only muster ONE goal despite so many chances.
Monty gave Binner the next game after that too haha. Embarrassing performance in Boston of course.
Back to the SO thing, Hofer shutout WPG (1-0W) and was rock solid in the most dominating/inspiring game of the season in a 6-2 W in FLA. Hofer’s reward? The bench at Tampa on non back to backs. Binner lets up 4 on around 14 shots.!!
XMAS BREAK————-
Hofer only lets up 2 against the surging Preds for a W then was a wall against the record streaking Buffalo, the sole reason the Blues weren’t booed off the ice that night. His reward? Bench at CO on non back backs!

I'm not thrilled with all the goalie calls this season either I'm just stating the Olympics has nothing to do with what the Blues decisions in goal have been....IMO.

we see this all the time in the nhl where many save % leaders only start about 50 games now adays. the absolutenload bearers often have slipping numbers. i think if you starz hofer all those games, then he has more gamesnthat are like binnys games andnless top peak games andnit doesnt necessarily contribute to winning as much. back when binny was in his prime- we saw the same with binny thatbhe was better when he got regular rest than asked to shoukder 85% of starts.
workhorse goalies just arent the way to go in the nhl. its a shame binny has been playing so poorly but i dont think hofer isnready to carry such a load.
hes never started more than 48 hames at any level and only 30 the last couple years. games matter at all points of season. they wantednto seenof binny could work things out too.
hofer should start more but binny is still gonna get starts.

High times for the best of us to show our colors ain't it?
Pathetic is, pathetic does.
Oh but wait...I forgot....we all just fall for it.

And I didn't realize I was a troll. Didn't know you could troll the teams you're a fan of...
And on a more serious note, since, admittedly, I often jest and don't take message boards too seriously, I think Hofer has definitely earned the starting role. At least for now...
