The NFL was built on gambling and TV.alw80 wrote: ↑07 Jan 2026 06:27 amMLB owners want to go the direction of NFL and completely water down their product, already doing it with soft collusion. They don't have the gambling and fantasy draw to make up for the bad product on the field though.Jatalk wrote: ↑07 Jan 2026 06:21 amI agree and frankly much better than MLB. It's a better product on TV than in person. The bigger the better, kind of.
I'll agree it is becoming, or better, has become a less product in a rapid time frame. Doesn't matter much right now because it
still appeals to the masses. The best plays often get called back due to insignificant penalties. The 3rd
most influential person on the field behind QB and head coach are the referees and they sometimes take the #1 spot.
The watering down of the product though, can be challenged some. Baseball is drastically different than football.
Dominate record in the NFL this season was 82%, pretty standard, the number suggest the lack of parity.
Baseball was 59%. Offensive success is 30%. The W% creates a level of parity throughout a season. Even 2
out of 3 isn't guaranteed and is considered successful, dominant if done consistently.
Teams feed us minimum wage players as the next hope while
a better player may not be given a contract. We buy it, I buy into it. This is partially due to a lack of salary structure in the
game. That point can be debated. But less skilled players do have a watering down of the product effect.
There are millions of discussions here and at the watercoolers about value of players that will sometimes trump the discussion
of production players. Those are far less frequent in the NFL where QB's, WR's, Superbowl chances, HC's, point spreads and fantasy
points are discussed.

Using Brady as evidence of good drafting is completely ridiculous. Mahomes was a good pick now explain why they haven't drafted a single good offensive player to put around him since Tyreek and Kelce? Belichick was fortunate to draft Gronk because he couldn't draft a WR to save his life.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑07 Jan 2026 19:54 pmNew England had a franchise QB and weren't looking for a starter. Jerry doesn't want to pay multiple HCs at the same time and doesn't want to pony up for what it would cost to get a good head coach either. Hes a cheapass and is fine with just keeping the Cowboys as an everyday topic on the sh*tty sports debate shows.Stlcardsblues wrote: ↑07 Jan 2026 20:30 pmIt has more to do with not wanting to admit a mistake over not wanting to pay multiple coaches. KC has drafted well around their big 3. Unfortunately, injuries and legal issues have hampered those picks.
