USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported that outfielder Owen Caissie, ranked by MLB Pipeline as the Cubs' No. 1 prospect and No. 47 overall, is set to be part of the return package heading to Miami.

More to follow.

Cubs giving up Owen Caissie, Cristian Hernandez, and Edgardo De Leon. Caissie is the Cubs' top prospect. Hernandez was a preseason top-100 prospect in 2022 whose star has since faded. De Leon will be 19 in February and has slashed .276/.395/.465 in 91 games in rookie ball.

I hope bloom is successful in developing the pitching pipe line because even unproven pitchers are going for a kings ransom

These are the kind of players and trades that the Cards are going to miss out on in this rebuilding phase. Not saying if this was a good trade or bad trade, but Cabrera could be a great get for the Cubs. Where we are just looking to get guys in pre-arbitraion and missing out on potential deals that could solidify the team.

I would not have traded JJ or Doyle for Cabrera ever they traded their number one prospect for a guy who has pitched 100 innings once in the majors in 5 seasons

I do believe Cabrera's upside could be a legit ace. I do not believe he will reach that upside. I wouldn't have made this trade, but i could also end up being dead-(donkey) wrong

He could be a little bit like Tyler Glasnow in this way- he will never have a Cy Young caliber season because he doesn't pitch enough, but he could sure pitch like a #1 in a playoff game.

I've seen him up close live at Spring Training and the guy has incredible stuff, which made me post numerous times about acquiring him since then, but he can't seem to put it together. He's not a kid, as he'll be 28 on OD.
They will have him for 2 years, and it will be very interesting, because if he's great, he goes FA; if he's poor, they are screwed. So my guess is 2 years - one good - and then he leaves.

Yeah I like E-Cab, but that was a hefty toll. No way I give up JJ, Liam, Rainiel or Bernal for him

We're stockpiling pitching, and that pitching is looking very good top to bottom. We almost have a glut of young, promising arms. From the FCL/Palm Beach to Springfield this season. We're seeing very crowded rotations. I expect 6 man rotations at each level with several long relievers waiting to get into the rotation if an injury occurs.

Conversely, our hitters are lacking. Hopefully, we're putting ourselves into position to trade from that Glut of Promising Arms...I want, I really want JJ, Rainiel, and Josh to have major impacts on the offense by 2028...I think they stand a good chance, but they're going to need help, there's not much behind them with the exception of Bernal/Crooks.

That's how the Cards are going to succeed come 2028, we're going to have to trade for 2 or 3 years of service time for AllStar bats. And we're going to have to be aggressive with it.

The Cubbies did what they had to do to position themselves at or near the top of the division for the next couple years. Cabrera is a nice add, even if he doesn't reach max potential. I'm glad our hand wasn't forced to deplete the farm similarly, but Cabrera should add a little assurance that our position in the Central will be tenuous thru '27.

Beyond '27 I like our chances to be very relevant in the division discussion.
