Winnipeg’s downfall from last season + is pretty easy to understand, lots of odd guesses here.
It’s goaltending. Plain and simple
Connor started the season out playing close to his “regular season prodigy” self and WPG was in a secure playoff spot. Then the downfall started IMMEDIATELY after he got hurt in late November. They lost a large majority of their games with Connor out.
He came back a few weeks ago but they’ve still struggled because Connor has been bad. He hasn’t posted a SV% above .900 in any of his past 5 games. The team isn’t used to this so most have lost confidence and it’s snowballed.

Broken Down:
12-7-0 to start the year
2-8-1 while Connor was injured
1-6-4 since Connor’s return

I agree with the previous posts and also wonder what role the absence of Ehlers has had on that team? I know he hasn’t been great in Carolina, but he was an integral part of the Jets’ offense and I think his presence is missed too. They have not been able to replace him.
Re: What is going in Winnipeg?
Crazy that last year had 5 Canadian teams make the playoffs with Calgary being the sixth down to the last game. Now, only 2 are in a playoff spot.
Still a ways to go in the season, but not looking good for our friends up north so far.

It's not just goaltending with this team. Like the Blues have done typically this season they had a two goal lead and lost the game with ten shots on goal after two periods. They are so far from their heavy forecheck model that brought them success in previous seasons.
