FCS championship game was a wild one

Post by jcgmoi »

The Montana State Bobcats won its first title in 40 years as they beat the Illinois State Cardinals 35-34 in overtime in Nashville last night. If you missed it you missed a good one.

The Cardinals scored first in OT but their point-after attempt was blocked. The Cats retaliated on a fourth and 10 TD pass and nailed the extra point for the win.

The Cardinals came from 14 down to tie it up in the fourth quarter and blew a chance to win in the last seconds of regulation when their FG attempt on fourth and 1 was blocked too. Need to work on that kicking game Cards.

The winning Bobcats had 9 false start penalties, and when's the last time you saw that.

The game had some great runs and catches and particularly runs after catches in the fourth quarter. Tremendous game to watch. I believe I'll watch more FCS ball next season.

Helluva football game.

Too bad it came down to not being able to make an extra point.

I couldn't believe the Redbird head coach tried that FG at the end of regulation instead of leaving his offense try for that 4th and one.

Montana st. defense was totally gassed and couldn't stop them the whole second half.

MT St punter looked good. Plenty of talent on field with both teams. MT St looked to be slightly better coached, particularly on kicking squad. Very entertaining game. Liked how ISU ran their passing offense.

I believe they said it was the IL-St kicker's 2nd start so was the regular guy hurt? I love watching the tournament with some games in the snow in MT & the Dakotas although some of the teams must have big donors since they have indoor stadiums.
The Redbird's QB was P.O.'d that the coach didn't go for the 4th & 1.
