OT: Looking for Movie Podcasts

Post by imyourhuckleberry »

I don't post here often, I'm more of a cards\blues\mizzou talk guy., but I'm looking for some new movie pods to listen to. I listen to podcasts way more than I should but running low on fun, interesting movie pods (probably because I'm too picky, a character defect I suppose).

I generally like independents with two or three not famous hosts taking about movies. If there's a good theme they follow so much the better. If they're actually funny, that's a bonus.

Not really interested is famous people talking to other famous people about how brilliant they are.

Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Beyond the Screenplay gets into the nuts and bolts of the story writing. They're pretty smart but I think a lot of their newest content is paywalled. Currently doing the Stranger Things analysis from a fan perspective.

Hit Factory has pretty good analysis of 90s films but they are leftists so they tend to look at political aspects of film.

The 80's film version of Hit Factory is called "The Imperial 80's" they're not on Spotify though, just Apple and Audible. Good commentary all around.

I'll try and think of others, especially non-political ones.

Thanks. I'll check it out.

I don't mind if they get political if it fits in with the movie (and I'm left of center anyway, so...)

Appreciate the suggestion.

Next Picture Show might be what you're looking for. It's a panel of critics who talk about a new movie and compare it to a classic. If you're looking for professional writers nerding out on movies, it doesn't get much better than this.

Filmspotting is very popular. I personally can't stand those guys, but your mileage may vary.

If you're interested in film history, it doesn't get better than Karina Longworth's You Must Remember This... That might be my favorite podcast, full stop.

The Re-Watchables is also good. More light-hearted, but they definitely have celebrity guests.

Thanks! The Rewatchables is the exception to my, admittedly flexible, rules. They're on my regular rotation.

Thanks for the other suggestions.

The Rewatchables is the most fun movie podcast. I try to watch the movie being discussed each week before I listen to the episode.

The Filmcast is another one I've listened to for a long time and really like. Each week a group of 4 guys reviews the "big" movie of the week, but the first hour of the show is talking about what they watched during the week, which could be movies or tv shows, as well as movie/tv news. Pretty fun listen.

Thanks ya'll for those film podcast links - haven't delved in that area, but if it turns out to be my wheelhouse i'd be down. Agree that the filmspotting guys (they come up here on WBEZ on friday nights), are not terribly engaging.

Ok, totally off the subjeck, but would like to share with our little kaffeeklatch that as a history fan, have been very much taken by Dan Carlin's Hardcore History. Dan's not a professional historian, but - takes a subject and goes -deep- and contextual, generally tries to look at any aspect from every reasonable viewpoint - if history is your jam, consider checking him out if you haven't already.

You can sample some very substantial podcasts for free - 'Supernova In The East', for example, covers the rise of Japan from its feudal isolationist status in the mid-19th century thru post WWII, ending with an exhaustive examination of the context surrounding Hiroshima & Nagasaki.
