He is a good penalty killer. His long reach helps. The overall PK results of the team would likely be worse without him. He and Walker are good at changing the momentum of a game, or at least maintaining it after we score a goal.gpe13579 wrote: ↑05 Jan 2026 12:53 pm He brings nothing a good scouting department couldn't find for half that money.
The cap going up doesn't mean you can p#ss away money.
A big, fast, straight line skater that doesn't finish checks, has offensive zero talent, is part of one of the worst PK in the league the last few years is not an asset.
It's simply a waste of money.

Yeah, it might be a tad high. But you're not finding a replacement for half that price...
It's not the end of the world for sure but it causes me to question the decision making going on. Being big, tall and fast means absolutely nothing if you don't know or won't do anything with it.
You don't pay players on physical attributes. You pay them on performance. Toro's performance is lacking woefully.

It's interesting people will complain about anything. Torpedo in my opinion is better than the stats say. I've never been a fan of his stick. He never really has shown that to be a point of growth for him. But when allowed, he does have an idea on how to get to the net. Joseph is much of the same. People will be the first to applaud Walker because he's the little guy that punches about his weight. But I think Torpedo's stat's have been a direct correlation of his linemates. Walker and Faksa weren't trying to create scoring opportunities last year. They played the way they wanted that line to play but the puck wasn't getting to the net. Recently, we have gotten to see what another tall speedster with a hint more skill with Joseph can do on that 4th line. I don't think it's a coincidence you have seen him with 3 points in the last couple games.Jeff Goldblum wrote: ↑05 Jan 2026 13:50 pmNot you. Your point was well stated. You mean like this where he smashes the defenseman's face into the glass? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kV5GJ1rcCkE
I'll be the first one to say and agree that he has left me wanting more the past year or so in the regular season, but I won't ignore his rookie season or his tremendous playoff performance last season.
Would like more of this please https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXSXw40liYg
Gosh, just watched one where he hits Stepan and then Kotkamieni attacks him. Hearing John and Jamie felt natural and made me want to watch more.
Maybe this isn't the right thread or place, but good golly it feels like 2006 again, only without the 20 dollar tickets and free parking at the 18th street garage. The hockey is worse, the broadcast is worse, additions to the live show don't increase the value of the experience as much as the increase in total cost (cheerleader section?)...
I mean, they better extend a homegrown blue collar guy like Toropchenko. At least the odds of entertainment increase with him on the ice. Someone might even have a chance to see Jake McCabe's face plastered in front of their (looks up the price -
I've liked Toro since we drafted him, so hopefully this extension gives him the chance to be here during some good years. They will be his prime years, which is worth noting.
Re: Torp extended
If he was projecting to a 14 goal season like had 2 years ago maybe but a 4 goal season ? The next thing you know is that Army will be handing out 8 million dollar contracts to 40 and 50 point scorers and 6 million to last in stats goalies. And some of you act like is hasn't happened. Bad GM and bad team. I read Hitch has had Army's ear again.

Literally anyone if they were available. 4th line player plays 8-12 min a game. He’s there to rest your top 9. Thats it. God people quit treating him like he’s a star!blues2112 wrote: ↑05 Jan 2026 18:08 pmWho of equivalent value could Blues could get on waivers?Bacchk29 wrote: ↑05 Jan 2026 13:13 pmJust baffling. This may be a tad high but he's good at what he does and seems to like being here. No problem keeping him around a couple more years.

Worse than the contract is the roster spot...Blues are gonna have to make some decisions soon when players start getting healthy and I fear Army will make the wrong decisions.

Re: Torp extended
I'll be honest, even with value of the minimum contracts having risen up towards the top end of the 6 figure mark, i think this is probably a little pricy for the production value. I don't know that this was a wild overpay, it's probably about 600-700k north of what i think i'd have wanted to pay (1.75-2). I am willing to look at the known versus the unknown, the solid playoff +/-, the willingness to block shots and throw his body in the way, and say yeah thats worth about 700-1m above the minimum wage, but i also think we have others that can do this job cheaper. We have Walker making just under 900k, so puts our average 4th line spend around 1.7-1.8M if we find someone at a comparible price, or less at a minimum, so this isn't going to hurt us much at all.
Who this hurts is Sunny and Joseph. Think the three were fighting for 1 roster spot. I'll be interested to see what Berggren wants if he maintains his level of play. Probably a guy we have to let go, but would be nice to keep guys who can move their feet and keep moving around in the offensive zone to create havoc.

Really this is the bigger issue for me. That and the love for a guy who tries hard and not much else.smilinjoefission wrote: ↑05 Jan 2026 18:25 pm Worse than the contract is the roster spot...Blues are gonna have to make some decisions soon when players start getting healthy and I fear Army will make the wrong decisions.
Re: Torp extended
I mean if we had a bunch of top end players available to sign the next 2 years you might have to let Toro go for that money but we don't.
Gotta keep things in perspective, with the cap going up again we are more likely to have a harder time finding good places to spend the money than we are to have a hard time finding ways not to spend it.
