Not blaming him, obviously we didn’t provide or show him what he was looking for. He’d have gone a long way toward fixing our O Line issues. That would have been what I would have led with if I were recruiting him (and a car, and potato chip brand, and a….).
However, things change and maybe he doesn't start right away at Miami.
He could realize that he wants to play and not sit on the bench and just decide to come home and play for Mizzou.
It happens all the time.
Cantwell then hits the transfer portal with a "Do Not Contact" tag and signs with Mizzou and his folks don't have to drive far to see him play.
Maybe wishful thinking on my part.
One good example = Mark Mitchell who went to Duke and changed his mind and transferred to Mizzou
That said, the beaches and weather in Miami are pretty awesome…

Re: OT - Cantwell Made the Right Choice
I don’t wish him anything detrimental but why should I wish him well?
Re: OT - Cantwell Made the Right Choice
He isn't all size, he's freakishly strong at his size having not grown into the 6'8" frame yet. He has the state shot put record and consistently breaks his own record while being a national champion in the U20 bracket. His parents were both Olympic shot puters... so yes, it was a huge miss.
As another poster said, maybe we will end up with him.

He’s one of the highest graded OL prospects in like 20 years AND it’s a pretty good bet that Samson Okunola goes to the NFL Draft. He’ll be a high 1st rounder if he does. Even if he doesn’t declare for the draft Francis Mauigoa is which opens up Right Tackle for Cantwell.
Either way, it’s a very high likelihood he plays a significant number of meaningful snaps as a true freshman next year.

How much more does he need to grow?
Re: OT - Cantwell Made the Right Choice
Grow into his frame means max out with peak strength and most males don't do that until 25-30. I didn't mean get tallerRollin' on the River wrote: ↑03 Jan 2026 20:59 pmHe’s 6’8 320lbs.Luke77 wrote: ↑03 Jan 2026 18:25 pm He isn't all size, he's freakishly strong at his size having not grown into the 6'8" frame yet. I personally don’t care for how he treated his home school…. I could care less what he does

The OP made it very clear the decision was right based on ONE GAME.
First you need to learn to recognize the trolls, and then remember not to feed them.

Re: OT - Cantwell Made the Right Choice
Why?
Why does Mizzou automatically get the kid just because he’s from Nixa?
Do you feel the same way about Jeremiah Smith? Dude grew up in the shadow of the University of Miami but spurned his “home school” to go to Ohio State?
Or does this only count for Cantwell because he was public about Mizzou having almost no chance for the better part of the last few months?

And after a while he will recognize that difference, ignore the $$$ and seriously consider returning to Mizzou because of that.
Re: OT - Cantwell Made the Right Choice
He acted like he was interested then didn’t even put Mizzou in his top 5 … screw him …. Don’t care for the lack of respectRollin' on the River wrote: ↑04 Jan 2026 10:07 amWhy?

Yes it is, It is 80 in Miami today and 40 in CoMo. Miami is an hour away from the Florida keys and the fishing capital of the world. Plus, what college kid doesn't like South Beach?

1. This a seriously smart kid.
2. His father is a pro athlete.
3. His mother is a former athlete and current banker.
Miami $2 million
Mizzou $1.5 (guess)
So, after 3 years $6 mil vs 4.5 mil
First NFL contract: expect $20 mil annually.
College money in inconsequential
Re: OT - Cantwell Made the Right Choice
I think money is #1 but a close #2 is that HC Cristobal is a former offensive tackle who played at an all-conference level and had a faint pro career and the OL coach not only knows his business but is Cristobal's old teammate and a close friend.
Cantwell gets paid top dollar, he's learning in a quality environment that has a keen understanding of line play, he gets to work on his tan and cruise South Beach. What's not to like?
