Question for CBA junkies...

Post by schwartzwatch »

I could have sworn the agreement says no team shall be required to have successive starts in less than 24 hours (e.g. Blues start Friday at 2:00 pm and Saturday at 3:00pm). I notice the Canadiens/Stars puck drop today is slated for 1:00 pm (only 22 hours after Canadiens/Blues puck drop). Am I just imagining the 24-hour rule? If not, are there stated exceptions?

Really? It's a question to knowledgeable Blues fans about the NHL collective bargaining agreement as it might pertain to a recent Blues opponent. What forum would you suggest?

With respect, WTF?

As to the OP I have no clue. If it was, you could be sure something would have been addressed as the NHLPA doesn't tend to let things slide.

I don't believe there is anything official in the current CBA indicating required rest times between games. The new CBA, which goes into effect for the 26-27 season, mandates 20 hours of rest between the end of one game and puck drop of the next game.

Just to add, in case you were curious, the current CBA does have a process that allows teams to appeal start times and scheduling, but final decision making rests with the NHL. As best I can tell, the current "24 hour rule" is a preference, and unofficial. (At least until 26-27)

Thanks for the clarification. I think that's what I had in mind, given it takes the better part of three hours to complete a game. I might have assumed the mandated rest period was already part of the current CBA. There's always more for me to learn.
