Can't score too quickly.11WSChamps wrote: ↑03 Jan 2026 09:48 amYeah until D2 guy came along and took the job from him which made Kiffen his best team.

Agree! With a high probability that Chambliss leaves, why would he leave a playoff team where he should be penciled in as a starter to come here? Could be that Chambliss does return, relegating him to backup, or Miss told he they were moving on for someone better.
Drink probably feels Simmons is good enough to hit the short passes to the flat and hand the ball to our running backs 35 times a game. We need to do better.Gotta grind it out.

Hey icon, you said your favorite announcers were Ray Scott, Pat Summerall and Curt Gowdy.
Have you been to the cemetery recently and asked them what they thought about Simmons?

several sources have said he isn't that accurate and has trouble if his primary is covered finding second or third target. Uh thanks but no. don't need projects we have those, need someone who has experience and Has gotten it done already.
Zollers played his way off the roster IMO and use that money and to go find a much more experienced accurate passer who is mobile. We no longer trust Eli to find the right QB. Let the OC who I am sure had targets for QB's at MI. Tho his track record of developing QB's is worse than drink's and that is saying something. NOT POSITIVE.

I’ve had a hard time finding anyone from Ole Miss who didn’t love him. Almost across the board people say he has one of the best arms they’ve ever seen. Smooth and can make all the throws. Only negatives I’ve see are his decision making on some throws has caused him turnovers. He’d be starting for Ole Miss and presumably in the playoff if he hadn’t gotten hurt in the 2nd game.
I think this is a fantastic addition. Doesn’t guarantee he’ll come in and start, Zollers will compete for it too. That’s a couple of young QB’s with serious arm talent. I seriously do hope that one of them rise up and are the clear starter. Best thing for everyone is for a talented QB to rise to the occasion.

Sounds like Brady Cook to me....4 TDs and 5 Ints @ 60%.....mechanics and decision making were inconsistent, a functional athlete, (means nothing special) coaches praise his intelligence/maturity/leadership....yep, just the kind of QB ol' Drink loves in his play not to lose style of offense.icon wrote: ↑02 Jan 2026 23:17 pm [quote="Lightning Rod" post_id=13223570 time=1767414622 user_id=338844]

Here's a summarized scouting report on Austin Simmons:
Austin Simmons is a 6'4" quarterback with a prototypical SEC frame, above‑average mobility, and a strong academic and football background, having reclassified two years early to join Ole Miss as a four‑star recruit. After backing up Jaxson Dart in 2024, he opened the 2025 season as the Rebels’ starter before a left‑ankle injury in Week 2 sidelined him and allowed Trinidad Chambliss to take over the job. Simmons finished the year with 744 passing yards, four touchdowns, five interceptions, and a 60% completion rate, showing flashes of high‑end arm talent, the ability to drive the ball outside the numbers, and touch on layered throws, though his mechanics and decision‑making were inconsistent and led to turnover‑worthy plays. He’s a functional athlete who can extend plays and operate effectively in RPO and play‑action concepts, even if he’s not a true dual‑threat runner. Coaches praise his intelligence, maturity, and leadership — traits reinforced by his early graduation and ability to stay engaged after losing the starting role. While he hasn’t yet produced sustained high‑level SEC play, Simmons offers a compelling developmental profile: a big, smart, toolsy passer with two years of eligibility and the upside to become a top‑half SEC starter in the right system, making him one of the more intriguing quarterbacks in the transfer portal and a strong schematic fit for RPO‑heavy, play‑action‑driven offenses like Missouri’s
Prepare yourselves for another season (or two) of mediocrity....just what the Missouri administration wants, to stay in the good graces of the SEC and bring in some bowl money to be added to the pot.....YAWN!

I watched him play a few times at OM, and every time I was wondering why Kiffin ever considered him to be the starter.

I agree, but we seem to bring in guys that are always a (bleep) shoot, not excited about this pickup if it happens. To me he's not much more than JAG...pass.

Smells a lot like Pribula. Couldn't win the starting job elsewhere, but he's good enough for Missouri? I certainly hope Simmons wouldn't be coming here with a promise to start.

This is Drink’s kind of QB.

You can scratch two QBs off the board.
Becht is headed to Happy Valley and Josh Hoover to Indiana.
