Re: Ole Miss QB Austin Simmons to Mizzou?
Here's a summarized scouting report on Austin Simmons:
Austin Simmons is a 6'4" quarterback with a prototypical SEC frame, above‑average mobility, and a strong academic and football background, having reclassified two years early to join Ole Miss as a four‑star recruit. After backing up Jaxson Dart in 2024, he opened the 2025 season as the Rebels’ starter before a left‑ankle injury in Week 2 sidelined him and allowed Trinidad Chambliss to take over the job. Simmons finished the year with 744 passing yards, four touchdowns, five interceptions, and a 60% completion rate, showing flashes of high‑end arm talent, the ability to drive the ball outside the numbers, and touch on layered throws, though his mechanics and decision‑making were inconsistent and led to turnover‑worthy plays. He’s a functional athlete who can extend plays and operate effectively in RPO and play‑action concepts, even if he’s not a true dual‑threat runner. Coaches praise his intelligence, maturity, and leadership — traits reinforced by his early graduation and ability to stay engaged after losing the starting role. While he hasn’t yet produced sustained high‑level SEC play, Simmons offers a compelling developmental profile: a big, smart, toolsy passer with two years of eligibility and the upside to become a top‑half SEC starter in the right system, making him one of the more intriguing quarterbacks in the transfer portal and a strong schematic fit for RPO‑heavy, play‑action‑driven offenses like Missouri’s

This sounds like a home run for Mizzou as you need 2 QBs to get through an SEC season.

Kiffin talking about Simmons. Did not realize how young he is but as Kiffin says he moved his college eligibility date up to 2023 from 2025 (2 years early), then completed his college degree at Ole Miss in 2.5 years. So in effect he has a college degree just 6 months after when he should have been graduating high school. Kid packed a lot in a short time.

Yikes! Hope they can keep Drinkwitz away from him!
Re: Ole Miss QB Austin Simmons to Mizzou?
Sounds like Brady Cook to me....4 TDs and 5 Ints @ 60%.....mechanics and decision making were inconsistent, a functional athlete, (means nothing special) coaches praise his intelligence/maturity/leadership....yep, just the kind of QB ol' Drink loves in his play not to lose style of offense.cardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑02 Jan 2026 19:41 pm Here's a summarized scouting report on Austin Simmons:

Prepare yourselves for another season (or two) of mediocrity....just what the Missouri administration wants, to stay in the good graces of the SEC and bring in some bowl money to be added to the pot.....YAWN!

I watched him play a few times at OM, and every time I was wondering why Kiffin ever considered him to be the starter.whowadat wrote: ↑02 Jan 2026 22:19 pmSounds like Brady Cook to me....4 TDs and 5 Ints @ 60%.....mechanics and decision making were inconsistent, a functional athlete, (means nothing special) coaches praise his intelligence/maturity/leadership....yep, just the kind of QB ol' Drink loves in his play not to lose style of offense.cardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑02 Jan 2026 19:41 pm Here's a summarized scouting report on Austin Simmons:

I agree, but we seem to bring in guys that are always a (bleep) shoot, not excited about this pickup if it happens. To me he's not much more than JAG...pass.icon wrote: ↑02 Jan 2026 22:21 pmI watched him play a few times at OM, and every time I was wondering why Kiffin ever considered him to be the starter.whowadat wrote: ↑02 Jan 2026 22:19 pmSounds like Brady Cook to me....4 TDs and 5 Ints @ 60%.....mechanics and decision making were inconsistent, a functional athlete, (means nothing special) coaches praise his intelligence/maturity/leadership....yep, just the kind of QB ol' Drink loves in his play not to lose style of offense.cardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑02 Jan 2026 19:41 pm Here's a summarized scouting report on Austin Simmons:

Smells a lot like Pribula. Couldn't win the starting job elsewhere, but he's good enough for Missouri? I certainly hope Simmons wouldn't be coming here with a promise to start.Lightning Rod wrote: ↑02 Jan 2026 22:30 pmI agree, but we seem to bring in guys that are always a (bleep) shoot, not excited about this pickup if it happens. I meant Jackson destroyed his pitching staff. I know he wasn’t directly responsible for Horn’s arm issues.LCA1951 wrote: ↑02 Jan 2026 19:31 pmCoach Jackson did not mess up Horne's armArmchair QB wrote: ↑02 Jan 2026 15:56 pmIf there’s a college baseball coach who’d screw him up as a pitcher, it’s Kerrick Jackson.
He might stick to football at Mizzou.

Sounds like another project.
Already have one of those in Zollers and another one in Sidwar coming in and they're already paid for.
If everyone is yapping for a "proven" guy then get one.

All I really know about Simmons is that he was good enough to start on Kiffin's best Ole Miss team until he was injured.

Re: Ole Miss QB Austin Simmons to Mizzou?
In his only start last year, at Kentucky, he was 13-24-235, 0 TDs, 2 INTs. Then he lost the starting job to injury and Chambliss. And the rest is history.11WSChamps wrote: ↑03 Jan 2026 09:48 amYeah until D2 guy came along and took the job from him which made Kiffen his best team.
Later in the year, he played mopup against The Citadel, and was 7-12-100 with 0 TDs, 1 INT. Work to do.

Agree! With a high probability that Chambliss leaves, why would he leave a playoff team where he should be penciled in as a starter to come here? Could be that Chambliss does return, relegating him to backup, or Miss told he they were moving on for someone better.
Drink probably feels Simmons is good enough to hit the short passes to the flat and hand the ball to our running backs 35 times a game. We need to do better.
