I feel good he's come this far that means he's been repeatedly tested he's done therapy. I really have liked him as a bottom 6 NHL center but now he needs productive AHL reps

Yeah, i'm hoping that he goes out and proves himself on the ice and makes the NHL, good comeback stories are fun. Still think he has an outside chance at a middle 6 NHL role, maybe would be iffy offensively but he'd stabilize a line with two better scoring talents on the wings.

Agree. Even if he never makes it in the NHL, I’m hoping he can put the substance abuse issues behind him, for no other reason than to have a positive life outcome.

Pretty sure Spencer Knight’s issue was extreme OCD. And while Dean’s issue was probably some sort of substance abuse (simply because that’s the most common reason), neither he nor the team has said why he entered the program.

That said, I wish Dean all the best. Hopefully he is now past what put him in the program and he can resume his career. Even better if he one day fulfills the potential he had.

He’ll be 23 in 2 days. He’s got a mountain to climb. Don’t have high hopes but I’m pulling for the kid.

He’s 22 until Jan 4th. He missed most of last year with injury. If he stays clean or free of whatever issue landed him in the NHL program there’s no reason to think he can’t get his career back on track. We’ll have an idea by the end of the year how he looks
