Lucas Giolito

Post by TraveledLessRoad »

Yes, I know we are rebuilding. But, we could still use a reliable, veteran arm...and he is still young enough with plenty of upside. Might be a nice anchor to a young rotation for the next 3-4 years. I wonder what kind length and AAV he'll end up commanding.

Spotrac estimates his next contract AAV to be just over 20M.

I would prefer to sign Freddy Peralta next offseason to be a future anchor. This season is still too early probably for spending for the future.

Giolito may be the canary in the coal mine as far as one year deals go heading into the potential lockdown... I think that is the only way this team signs a pitcher of his current ilk this off season, on a one year bridge.

What about Walker Buehler?

I think Buehler had a good chance to outperform the one or two year deal he will command.

Gio could work for the reasons you mentioned.
I favor Littell in the same role.

MLBTR had Lucas at 2/$32 and Zack at 2/$24. Need won't go away
I'd give a third year with not much hesitation.

May won't last. He either breaks again or is good. The Pallante, Leahy, and that group
are lesser pitchers and redundant.

They need to go get two of that group. I remember Buehler (sic) as being a beast when healthy.

At what point will people realize he’s cooked?

Success rate after second Tommy John surgery is putrid.
